In this timetable, there exists a train which has a rule in place that the simulation picks which one will run on the day. Now in the rules, I've got it in place as train A and train B are alternatives to which the simulation than correctly says which one will run on the day in question. However, when I look in the Timetable List, it appears that both trains have entered yet they haven't visually entered the simulation. I've got the percentage of the time that the train will run set at 100% for both train A and train B yet somewhere along the line, this hasn't worked as it should do. As the intention is that the simulation should pick one of the two trains to run, have I set up the rule correctly? Log in to reply |

You will have more control if you use a Decision rather than a Rule (and it is far easier in complex situations where you may have a number of possible options to use one single decision rather than a multitude of rules or an XOR list).

And once you've read through the material at the link Stephen provided trawl through the issued timetables. Most of the more recent ones use Decisions so you can see how they are set up in those TTs.

However somehow I managed to track down the precise reason why I was having great difficulty with what I was trying to achieve and now I've managed to have a decision in place which advises which of the two trains will run on the day in question and seeds successfully. I don't know how I did it but least the issue is resolved. Log in to reply |

[/quote] Some of this is historical. Rules came first, but were rather misused / overextended to do things like choosing day of the week variations. With both now available, as Postal said it is best to get into decisions for 'which trains run' and to use rules for making sure train diagrams stick together, trains do not meet themselves coming the other way, time is allowed for shunting off-sim and the like. Feel free to ask for some simple examples on a free sim (Westbury say ?) if you think it would help Log in to reply The following user said thank you: ajax103 |

The only drawback I have found with decisions is that a given train or activity can only be subject to one decision, whereas it could be subject to multiple rules. A decision can have many choices, and you can pick and select which ones you trigger from, but you don’t seem to be able to subject a train to multiple decisions. There are many positives to decisions, would recommend using them, but I’ve found this to be the limitation.
