Please can we have a couple more options for when dealing with phone calls to the Fowey shunter about the branch staff,

1) When the shunter calls to ask if they can come to collect the branch staff from you, Please can we have a call back in 2 minutes option

2) When the branch staff is in at LL SB and it is not set to be issued at LL SB, Please can we have an option to phone the Fowey shunter and ask them to come by road to collect the branch staff

2 should be a redundant request. The shunter will ring to ask for it and then travel up to collect by road in good time for his trains departure as written in the manual.

Yes, 2 would be redundant, unless you turn them down with no train on the branch, in which case they won't call back.

See the attached saves for an example,
Save 1 FDCP Shunter calling for the first time- the shunter is on the phone to you to ask to come get the staff
Save 2 FDCP Shunter at 2436 - The clock has been run to 2336, over 24h after train was due to enter
I also attach all the messages in the message box feed from running this to show they never call again

Mantis 41530 for point 1, but point 2 is essentially a moot point..

Why is 2 a moot point?
As I demonstrate in post #158801 if, when the Fowey Shunter calls to ask to come to get the staff you say "There is a train in section, please call back when it clears" when there is no train in the section, the shunter will NEVER call you back because there is not a train in the section to clear. The shunter may call to ask for permission for the train to enter, but even if you give the shunter permission for the train to enter, the train will never actually enter the sim because the staff is not at FDCP because the staff can only get there on another train or with the Fowey shunter, if there is not another train going to FDCP then the Fowey Shunter is the only option, and if the Fowey Shunter is waiting for a non-existent train to leave the section before calling back they will never call back to ask if they can come to get the staff.

Tell me that that is not a bug and that and that point 2 will not solve it in a graceful manner

If 1 is fixed, 2 automatically solves itself.

As JC92 pointed out when a train is due to enter at Fowey the Shunter will call for permission to collect the staff. There is no need for any further complications.

If the "There is a train in section, please call back when it clears" is changed to a "not now, call back later" option when the staff is in at LL SB, then yes it will absolutely solve it, but if the call back later option is added in addition to the "There is a train in section, please call back when it clears", then no as you'll still be able to soft lock the train leaving FDCP

Depends if you know what the exact issue is as myself and EPS125 do.

Many of the other 'wait for X and try again' commands across sims have a backstop timer so that if the X fails to happen for whatever reason the requesting call is repeated. No need for a 'new' call but some reasonable way to prevent this loophole surely ?

For example an LC user told to wait for the next train comes back with something like 'I saw no train - is it OK to cross now'. They do not sit there all day.
Surely the real shunter at Fowey would do the same if no train appeared after say 20 minutes ?

3 - Why is the shunter asking for permission to enter a train when they do not have the staff and think a train is approaching ?
Is that not a bug too ?

(Have run the 'calling' save, and the shunter was not ringing and had already got into the black hole of wanting to enter a train without the staff. To test I needed to save the TT and restart from midnight)

I'm afraid Murphy's Law tells us different. If an option is there, however unfeasible, sooner or later someone will knowingly or inadvertently activate it and effectively destroy any possibility of running the TT as the writer planned it. The avoidance of the consequences of Murphy's Law is why there are so many backstops and controls in real railway signalling even though nobody sensible would try certain actions.

Hence Matt and I spent an hour working it out and deciding exaxtly what is wrong and what to log on Mantis.

The issue in 1, is a bug as there is supposed to be the usual 2/5/15 minute callback options which are not displaying, and the failure to call back if there is no train in section is part of the same related problem.

Number 2 is essentially a feature request which would not add anything to the sim as a train about to enter with the staff at the other end will call before hand to collect it, and with plenty of time for the train to enter on time assuming the timetable isn’t trying to do more with the infrastructure than is possible in the era of the sim.

We have to remember that humans in reality are far more dynamically adaptable than computer code and it would be unwise to overcomplicate the latter.

I had to do the same; this is the core code limitation of calls ringing in at the time a save is made.
