Hi, I think it would be useful to have a "change traction" dropdown in the Trip dialog, as opposed to having to do a category change. Or this could be an Activity. Either way it could also possibly increase the chances of a failure occurring at that location if you were feeling malevolent :) Thanks Jamie Jamie S (JAMS) Log in to reply |

Beyond failures, which could be done another way anyway, I'm not seeing the expense vs benefit of this over the existing category change.

I’d expect a TCO to automatically extend the dwell time if stationary (time enough to start engines or close MCBs), possibly introduce loss of power if the new traction was degraded.

While these can can be done already, but only to an extent. Add a dwell time for a stopped TCO (eg Farringdon). Seems OK. As for failures, you could add both trains (normal and failed TCO) with a low % decision on a few trains to get some of the effects. That does get messy though - bad enough just doing two failing 27's on my Edinburgh 1984 (sorry 27 fans). Would be excessive to add every Thameslink at Farringdon / City with a 1/1000 chance of failing. However embedding the potential fault in the traction change would give a very low% across ALL trains, maybe closer to what you are thinking of ? That though does not allow you to timetable (ie replicate control decisions) for the recovery. Would setting up 10-20 trains with 2% be acceptable for a timetable ? Log in to reply |

One instance where this would be useful and where the cat change isn't that great is where you have trains that have AC and Diesel power eg AC Loco Hauled sets being dragged by a Diesel where you have no choice but to set the Class 91 as AC and Diesel even if you've got a Class 67 coupling up to the Mk4 and dragging it. It would be nice if somehow the traction changeover could recognise this and show the train as Diesel Power once the Class 67 has attached likewise show up as AC power when the Class 67 has detached.

Is that not exactly what Cat change does allow ? 91+9 = AC 91+9+67 = D (and different acceleration / weight) It might be necessary to split the through train into sections to pacify TT analysis later on, if say the train enters as one and has further activities after the new Cat as a 'Next'.
