I did a quick search of the Forum and could find nothing relating to this issue.

I’ve just accepted 9T27 from the Down Decoy Yard and it’s supposed to travel to the Back Road.

On this occasion it got as far as the track circuit between signals D1421 and D239, then shot back into the Decoy Yard and the route is still set.

I don't recall this happening in a previous game.
Is this incorrect behaviour, or to be expected?

I re-ran the sim from the attached save and the same thing happened.

This is intentional behavior. I've set it up to reflect a "long shunt", that is to say a movement from one siding to another which needs to drop out just beyond one of the hand points in Down Yard, but doesn't come all the way out. not all the 9T27s are long shunts such as the MGR wagon swaps but most are.

I think I put a note about this in the panel notes section of the timetable although I could be mistaken.

I don't recall reading any panel notes to be honest, so couldn't say one way or the other 😐

Taken from TT description/notes

Quote:
Pilot shunts out of Down Decoy will only draw out far enough to clear the handpoints in the yard and won't draw clear of D1426 before returning into the yard. - the Yard Signalman will need to cancel the route and wait for it to time out.

If there are, as you say, the long shunts that don't come out very far, there would be no need to clear signal D239 for the Back Yard. Would that be ok, or should I still clear it?
On the last occasion, I had to wait 120 seconds before it cleared.

You could always try it and see what happens . . .
