For reasons known probably only to Microsoft, Windows 11 is still MajorVersion 10. Sigh. The string you reported is from the Registry, placed there by Windows, and indeed mine also reports 10 instead of 11. I'm on holiday right now, but from the quick research I've done on it, one has to take multiple values in combination to determine the actual version of Windows. Nevertheless, in this instance it doesn't matter so much. We had issues before where people would report an issue and leave out somewhat useful information like running on a Mac or Linux setup, or Windows 95 or whatever. Thanks for reporting though. Mantis 42068 though not a priority issue. SimSig Boss Log in to reply The following user said thank you: MrSuttonmann |

Probably because too many people have done version checks the wrong way and their programs unnecessarily freaked out when encountering a new unknown Windows version. So the only alternative to force programmers to do things properly is to introduce a new API with every Windows version and keep the old one frozen in place for backwards compatibility reasons. That's exactly what they did with Windows 7 which was NT 6.1 and not 7.0. Windows 8 was then NT 6.2 and 8.1 was NT 6.3 before Windows 10 was actually NT 10.0. Looks like Windows 11 is still 10.0 though and not even 10.1. Last edited: 14/04/2025 at 16:19 by Zoe Reason: None given Log in to reply |
