Seems like Southern are making claims that are not true....yes they are...no they aren't.

But where is Central London...anyone know?

I guess Zone 1 would be a good proxy. Though with London Bridge being outside the circle line it does seem slightly less central. Wikipedia seem to think that the Centre itself is Charring Cross.

I believe CX is the point from which road distances from "London" are measured - or was?

Yes I must agree and always thought it was Charing Cross...but what's a few minutes difference....probably a lot if you are on a Sim Sig game intent on keeping the penalty points down....lol

Victoria is closer to Charing Cross than London Bridge by half a mile the way the crow flies. If you were simply to take the claim of the fastest train to central London then the ASA are right. But if you were to argue that London Bridge is in an inconvenient corner of central London then you'd have a much more difficult and possibly subjective claim to make.

I thought it had long been known that FCC is quicker and cheaper than GatEx...always makes me laugh when I see the GatEx advert on, for example, the tube and I can bask in the knowledge that FCC is both faster and cheaper. Also I'd quite happily avoid a Class 460 'Darth Vader' from the looks of the seats on it..first class ones look weird and that's just for starters!

Not a lot in it though- mid-morning it's 29 mins FCC (1 stop), 30 mins GX (0 stops) and 31mins Southern (2 stops). Given that the other trains have stops it does seem there could be some padding in the GX timetable.

They do have padding.

The Up GatEx passes Battersea Park at approximately xx:00/15/30/45, when the next Down GatEx is booked to depart. The incoming train has to sit outside for that and the xx:02/17/32/47 departure before finally getting the route into the station, booked as the xx:05/20/35/50 arrival.

This repeats every 15 minutes, but in the evening peak there are 2 or 3 up trains that wait for the xx:15/45, xx:17/47 and xx:19/49 departures, and are booked to arrive at xx:22/52.

If there wasn't this padding, and they hadn't timetabled the departures when they have, then the service could probably run under 28 mins (at least in the Up direction).

No Darth Vaders on GatX any more. Just the classic Wessex Electrics. Only 5 coaches on a lot of them now as well as the stock is shared with the Brighton Expresses, which of course don't stop at Gatwick.

Last time I was on a GX it was a 73 shove-set.

I think CX is a bit pseudo as the centre of London. Is the cross still there anyway? (I know Waltham Cross is). I think Piccadilly Circus should be instated instead. At least everyone knows where that is!!
