Hello folks

I was travelling today to Manchester, and upon arrival at Chester we were told there had been a lightning strike, and we had to wait 25 - 30 minutes for the single line to clear. When we departed, a short while later we arrived at Mickle Trafford Junction for a pilotman.

Does anyone have any more information on this?

So far not managed to find out anything about this..apart from one article titled "HST could become ‘political lightning rod’ in Ontario"...but it wasn't talking about a High Speed Train!

Which single line are you referring to?

Guessing that signalling was knocked out so any points were hand clamped, signals dark (or red), and trains only using one of two lines in both directions, needing a pilotman in lieu of signalling.

Thunder and lightning occurred 2245 fri evening, knocked out all signals and axle counters lineside equipment struck as well, due to pilotman working and arriva trains diversions the single line could not cope,a lot of delays and a few cancelled trains, signalling restored 1246.Then a power blip at 1600 caused all axle counters to fail mickle trafford to mouldsworth that took another 2 hours to fix and some arriva trains were cancelled.
