Caan I make my own sim? 09/11/2011 at 10:31 #22637 | |

Well, just to clarify... I am not talking about the possibility of doing this, I mean I'll program anything by myself. The only thing 'really' related to SimSig is that, I will be using a font (in TTF) that is converted by myself based on the fonts given in SimSig System Files. If really, I am done with my sim, either imaginary or real, can I publish it with any licening? The main point is still related to the point. But in an alternate view, making any SimSig-like programs would involve fonts that is similar to the one in which SimSig uses (even the real IECC does, isn't it?) So I wonder how I should treat the font. Log in to reply |

In this context you've taken data that I have produced and converted it to your own format. One could say that the symbols used in the font are (c) Network Rail (or whatever)*, but the font file produced by myself is (c) Me. Though I don't mind you playing around with my font for personal entertainment, once you start to release software and claiming the font is your own, then you are most definitely violating copyright. * Actually, I don't think they are because the symbols to be used are laid out in standards and you can't really copyright standards if you expect somebody to replicate those symbols without a copyright easement or license. Since I don't believe the latter exists, I believe the symbols are copyright-free or at least eased. SimSig Boss Log in to reply |

I'm not sure it's SimSig's role to help you set up in "competition". Peter I identify as half man half biscuit - crumbs! Log in to reply |

I would have thought that it would be an RGS standard as outside companies would have to use it. I thought it might have been in GKRT0025, but it's not. I'll try and find out if it's on IHS tomorrow. Log in to reply |

It used to reside in GK/GN 00525 but no longer. Symbols for VDU based systems is in NR/SP/SIG/10067 - Requirement Specification for a VDU Based System (formerly RT/E/S/10067) This appears to be changing soon judging by the following TI. Quote: Until such time as the requirements contained in the former Railway Group Standards relating to data transmission are incorporated into company standards (NR/GN/SIG/11600, NR/L2/SIG/00801 & NR/L2/SIG/10131), staff/contractors/suppliers shall continue to comply with the former RGS; SSP 50 (issue 1).Interestingly rgsonline shows GK/GN 0525 as being withdrawn, however I believe this TI suggests we should continue to comply with the withdrawn RGS. You can still view the withdrawn GK/GN 0525 on the RGS website Hope this helps. FF Last edited: 09/11/2011 at 21:24 by Firefly Log in to reply |

Well, thanks for everyone who replied to this thread! Actually, I had thought of just using the font files installed by SimSig (and users must have SimSig installed, as a promotion for SimSig), but the problem is that C#, which uses GDI+, doesn't allow bitmap fonts. So that's why I need the font in True Type. I am not planning to "compete" with SimSig, but the program may be useful in the future where I can have external modules reading and sending points, signals and TC data from/to openBVE (a in-cab simulator), from/to model trains, or even from the real world (quite impossible )! So I thought the nature will be quite different. xxxxaa]afaaxx jk xxxxaaagacaxx Just wondering how many of you can see the above thing.
