Hi all,

Have a bit of a situation at the moment where there is a points failure at Landor Street, preventing anything from New Street on the Up Derby from crossing the junction.

I tried inserting the 'BLOK' code at signal 201, hoping that trains would automatically be rerouted to enter at Five Ways (and then take them via the Camp Hill Line), but it didn't seem to work...

Is there a way of diverting all Up Derby entries to Five Ways, or will I just have to stick it out?

At the moment, I can't see a way around this. I assume the computer will start sending trains to you via Lifford in due course when they can't get any out the normal way, but I really don't know if this will happen or not.

In the long-term, when New Street panel is released, if you are chained, you could send a message to New Street box regarding this, but I can't see any other way around this at the moment.

I will try and regenerate the incident using the Incident Control Panel and let you know if I come up with anything,

Hi Urbanfox & Tim

In real life if you had problems with the Points at Landor St then trains would be diverted via Lichfield and Wichnor Jn. We only divert via Five Ways & Lifford if there is a problem with the forward cab and have to change ends at New St. I guess once you are on the move at Landor St the sim will just send you the delayed trains but as Tim has said once New St has been released then you can divert as required if chained. Hope this helps.

When I worked on the station, we almost always diverted via the Cross City, or, depending on the exact nature of the problem, via Leicester and North on the MML for Voyagers and Central services via Derby/Nottingham. Indeed, for a period, there were booked Nottingham services which went via Leicester for route knowledge.

Another alternative which did happen occasionally when there were problems at Proof House Jn was to run Derby side trains via Camp Hill, and Walsall and Lichfield stoppers via Soho Road, with the Lichfields changing ends at Aston and taking the Cross City from there.

Unless the 'derby lines' block scenario is selected then trains will not take the route from landor st - new st via lifford, nor will they enter on the glocs lines to go via lifford. in a failure situation as discribed control would arrange this on a train by train basis dependant on route knowledge. you can do the same in the F2 - ammend TT. What I will do is ensure the sim sends trains out of new st via lifford if blok/*t** etc is entered into SY201 berth

Going in is dead easy, just abandon his timetable before he gets to SY204 and then send via Camp Hill.

For added "realism" you could stop the train at SY204, then when he phones up standing at the signal tell him to wait two minutes then abandon his TT and signal forward via Camp Hill, with the phone call telling him to wait being equivalent to a Signalman in real life checking whether he signs the road and telling him he is being diverted.

Make sure you abandon the TT via the F2 function before clearing SY204 to Camp Hill though, or else you will get penalised for a wrong route.

Daz, as a query, would it be possible to make the Camp Hill a valid route to BHM from Landor Street in the sim coding as it is a fairly regularly used diversion anyway?

I have seen this only once as a passenger on a cross country 1Sxx or 1Exx which for some reason had to be berthed on the western end of the platform ans another train had been berthed on the proff house junction end of the platform meaning the quickest way north was to be sent on the gloucester and then via Lifford and Landor street onto our booker route.

There are currently several trains booked to go either Proof House and Camp Hill for King's Norton and points south-west, or via Lifford and Camp HIll towards Landor Street for route knowledge. Last time I went to Birmingham, I travelled on a 1V which was booked out via Camp Hill towards King's Norton, and left the station from plat 3a.

During my time working on the station, there was normally one Worcester/Hereford booked out that way for route knowledge, and one Newcastle booked via Lifford for the same reason. As well as this, there were occasional Worcester/Hereford services booked via Stourbridge at the start of my 3 1/2 years on the station.
