The Simsig Facebook Groups page set up in 2007 by me and a few Simsig-loving friends has been taken down by Facebook today "because we received a notice from a third party that the content infringes their copyright(s)." I wasn't aware of any copyright violations, but obviously apologise for any indavertent posts / content that I hadn't noticed. Facebook went on to say: "We strongly encourage you to review the content you have posted to Facebook to make sure that you have not posted any other infringing content, as it is our policy to terminate the accounts of repeat infringers when appropriate." But since access to the page is now barred I am unable to check the content, and am now worried that my own personal Facebook account is at risk. I am a long-time Simsigger and forum member, as well as occasional content (TT) creator, and would never knowingly do anything to prejudice the success or intellectual property of Simsig. Our page existed quite happily since 2007, and so I am at a loss to know what's changed - when I looked last week there were no recent posts at all. Had I been contacted directly I would have been quite happy to either remove the offending content, or close the page down altogether (as other pages have been created since, and indeed two others still exist). Can anyone shed any light on what gave rise to the takedown notice, either here or by PM reply if preferred, so if Facebook does try to close my personal account that I can explain what happened first? Many thanks Rob Log in to reply |

Yes Rob, I believe your group has been confused with another one of the Simsig groups on facebook. I'll let you draw your own conclusions from that. I'm sure you haven't done anything wrong, and hopefully facebook will correct it. I thought I read somewhere that Facebook were "archiving" all the old style groups anyway. So it would probably have disappeared in their cull anyway. Log in to reply |

There were a couple of rogue pages - one which I wasn't allowed to access which goes to show how rogue it was. With FB's help, other pages were identified too and it was easier to leave the one sanctioned page/group rather than try to identify each of the owners when their FB and real life / forum names were different. I suspect the "copyright violation" is a generic text as the reporting involves more detail than that. Apologies if you feel aggrieved but as I say it was not easy to identify the owners and thus inform them before the event. If, in the unlikely event, FB do contact you further regarding copyright, PM me. If there are more pages then please paste the URLs here. There is probably someone with no life or respect for other people who got aggrieved and childishly created more. SimSig Boss Log in to reply The following user said thank you: Sam Tugwell |

I know how difficult it can keeping on top of idiots like that on the web. Rob Log in to reply |

I'm not sure, but you haven't found the one which is actually causing the problems in the first place.
