would they also phone up to get spelling checked? obviously a broken rail would probably be a bit extreme, and would potentially cause massive delays, but for smaller 5 minute tasks it could be a good idea

We do prefer the posts to be in English and while everyone does typographical error from time to time some effort to write coherently would be appreciated. Most browsers have some sort of spell checker function which I find invaluable. Peter I identify as half man half biscuit - crumbs! Log in to reply |

And while we are on the subject, Could all posters start there sentences with capital letters please. I didnt know you needed at least a GCSE in grammar and spelling to post here, maybe there should be an entrance page to this site forcing the user to declare what qualifications they have. I could read the first post here without any help so i think to bring about ones spelling is over the top and a bit stupid quite frankly specially as the poster cant even punctuate properly. And on another note most browsers dont have spell check feature, Internet Explorer didnt have one until version 10 unless an add on was downloaded and installed.

" said:And while we are on the subject, Could all posters start there sentences with capital letters please. There are a lot of readers of the Forum for whom English is not their first language. As they are already at a disadvantage in trying to understand the postings, surely is is only polite to try and make it as easy as possible for them by asking all posters to try and use something approaching standard English with punctuation and spelling like visitors have probably been taught. It is not the end of the world, just another way that this friendly and helpful Forum can assist those who use it. “In life, there is always someone out there, who won’t like you, for whatever reason, don’t let the insecurities in their lives affect yours.” – Rashida Rowe Log in to reply |

i never said i could punctuate properly, but if you want to keep offending people who are not as intelectual as your selves maybe you should post it in the rules so those who are dyslexic like my self can know what will happen to them when they post, and also heres a suggestion, an entry exam to join the forum. If a post is readable then that should be ok. If you can question peoples writing ability then i can question your reading ability, because it is still obvious what he was saying, so if you were struggling then, maybe go back to school. At least we don't have to fill in TRBs in multiplay...not only would you have to decipher spelling but hand writing as well!

If somebody genuinely can't be bothered to proof read their post, why should I be bothered answering it? Better quality questions get better quality answer. Mistakes: reasonable; laziness: poor. Since we're on the subject how about those sentences with no ending I really hate those you have to work out where one sentence begins and another ends it's a waste of my time by the end of the sentence I've forgotten what I was reading the sentence has lost meaning SimSig Boss Log in to reply |

It's a generation thing. We sowed the wind when it was decreed that spelling and grammar did not matter as long as students could "express themselves". Now we reap the whirlwind, but those who can "express themselves" have no idea what all this debate is about. If you are of a certain age the sad fact is that you are going to have to learn to live with a different standard of written English to the standard you believe is proper because there are lots of people now posting who have not been made privy to that standard during their education. Edit: Just realised that maybe that could be seen as disrespectful to those whose brains are wired up to manage the written word in a different way to most people. No such intent in the posting and apologies if anyone has taken it that way. “In life, there is always someone out there, who won’t like you, for whatever reason, don’t let the insecurities in their lives affect yours.” – Rashida Rowe Last edited: 14/01/2012 at 17:52 by postal Log in to reply |
