Now we're on a virtual private server with lots more resources, I am experimenting with the Shout box. It will now update more regularly, will be visible on all pages except forum pages, and will also be visible when not logged in (though posting will require logging in first).

The reason it won't be visible on forum pages is because many people have several forum threads open at a time, each of which is pulling data from the server, causing it to work harder. Most other pages on the site don't tend to be visited in that way.

The parameters are subject to change depending on the results.

Would it be possible to have the shoutbox on the forum index page only? Or is that not possible?

It's per main module (ie Forum, Shop, Events, etc) so unfortunately not.

Now on forum pages too, as the previous experiment did not appear to overload the server. Subject to change if it does become a problem though.

The double upward arrow to minimise the Shout Box does not work in Firefox (Beta10) (nor in Opera or Google Chrome) but it does appear to work in IE8.

Any chance that it can be made to work for those of us who prefer not to use IE?

It doesn't work for me in Firefox or Chrome on the forum page. But does on the Home page if that's any help.

Should have said FF Beta 11 - they change so often now I lose count. On the Home Page in FF the double headed arrow reverses to point down but the Shout Box remains fully in view. Same things happens on the Donations, News Archive, Contact Us, Events and Links pages.

Under Chrome the max/min buttons for ALL the windows (Main, Shout,....User menu) work correctly, but NONE work on the Forum page.

Same results with IE 9 and Safari
