Due a Track Circuit failure on the down fast on the approach to BJ165 signal at Brocklesby West Jc, 6T21 was signaled over the Jc from BJ163 to BE57 on the down goods & the driver asked to examine the line.
Normal procedure would be for the driver to report his findings on arrival at BE57, however on this occasion he reported from sub signal BJ221 at the west end of brocklesby platform. This is not normal practice as when a driver is instructed to examine the line its normally between two main signals, unless specially requested to report from somewhere else

Interesting. I have absolutely no control over that unless Bj221 is listed as a main signal instead of a subsidiary, which isn't. I may have to raise this one as a core code bug. Can some confirm if this is repeatable?

Usual SimSig behaviour, in both these situations:
a) If a train is instructed to pass a red to examine the line, it will call in at the next signal whether main or shunt; if a shunt, can be told to continue to examine.
b) if it's to pass a red, it can also happen, although I can't be 100% specific on circumstances.

I assume this is because the simulation assumes the default presence of a SPT at all signals. If no telephone is assumed, it could cause other problems.

I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either.

What is happening is what will happen in real life. If the driver is told to pass a signal a danger he only goes as far as the next signal whether its a main signal or position signal. He will only pass the position signal (if there is one between the two main aspects) is if he is told at the outset to pass all signals and report back at the next main signal. Passing the position signal without authority is a SPAD and in the command we are only telling them to pass the one signal.

And you're not allowed to authorise past more than one signal at a time, usually...
