Folks,

I think I have the points locked correctly - then when 3S85B calls for the unsignalled move I give authority and he ends up giving a message "run out of valid track" - Can anyone offer tips on how to set the road?

I've never had to perform an "unsignalled" move for this train. You've not given any more details about location or cirumstances so I'm assuming it is the move from Kings Norton into the On Track Plant Depot. Or maybe the reverse at Barnt Green? Either way the train can and should be able to be routed using main or shunt signals.

At Barnt Green, 3S85B should be routed into P4 where it automatically reverses. Route from Sig.7 to Sig. 15 to route it back towards Longbridge and Kings Norton.

Near Kings Norton, the route should be set from the Up Fast at Sig. 35 to Kings Norton A&D line (shunt sig. 523) where it will pause for a few minutes. The route should then be set from sig. 523 into the OTP Depot spur (click on grey arrow to right of A&D line. Et voila!

Ahhh I found the problem (could therefore be a possible bug)..

I routes the train up towards Bromsgrove! So it sat there for a while and did it's thing, then asked for permission to proceed - so I ended up reversing it all the way down the Down Fast! Nothing coming though, so I guess it was no problem!

sounds like youve routed it incorrectly at barnt green, P4 (as sloppyjag has said) has a signal to allow reversing manouvres

i see no bug

With regard to the "run out of valid track" message. Every section of track is coded for a flow in a particular direction so, although there may be a physical route between two points (e.g from the Down Main at P2 at Barnt Green to the Up Main at Cofton) if it hasn't been coded as a valid route then the train will run out of valid track.

Two things..
Firstly, when posting bugs with the timetable trains PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE indicate which timetable you are use (Including start time if there are variations), train ID, location as an absolute minimum.
Secondly, as the author of the TT I can assure you there are NO unsignaller moves or any that would cause a train to run out of valid track unless the signaller doesn't do what the TT says.

Which is what I did. Perhaps bug wasn't the right word, I just thought it strange the train accepted me sending it the wrong way and carried on as normal!

he cant be "signalled" the wrong way, so you havent carried it out correctly. and if he phones for authority to proceed then he isnt accepting it as normal...hes asked you if he is allowed to.

This is 3S85B, routed incorrectly towards Bromsgrove:

He took the route without question. Here he is calling for authority:

...and trundling wrong road to the Plant Depot:

Originally, I had tried to run him wrong road, and then use the crossover just before the junction to Redditch to cross back onto the right line. This is when I received the message "run out of valid track". If I had realised I had sent him the wrong way in the first place I wouldn't have had this issue, the only reason I said it was a bug (probably with the core rather than the TT) is because he didn't call when i sent him towards Bromsgrove!

I'm sure I read on here a while back that wrong route logic is optional to the developer as it can be very complex to set up. (Happy to be corrected if wrong.) So in this case the driver may report wrong route if the train is due to carry on to Redditch and is routed towards Bromsgrove (or vice versa) but may not have been coded for trains which turn back at Barnt Green. There would be a lot of IFs and WHENs and IFNOTs to code otherwise.
