Birmingham Snow Hill Turnbacks 13/01/2012 at 12:02 #27214

What is the maximum capacity of the Snow Hill Turnback sidings? At present time on my sim I have a Chiltern 168 standing in one siding (No 1) due to move about 23:28 (5U90). Approaching Moor St is a 3 car 150 set ECS from Stratford (5S82). This train is also destined for the Turnback to await another 3 car 150 (5B62) after it finishes its run from Shirley.

During a Turnback move into No2 siding, I found a capacity issue as I was unable to get the train within the trap points.

From the data while testing Saltley for Dazza:
#1 turnback 149m long;
#2 turnback 110m long.

These are TC lengths, you may lose some available length due to trains not tight to buffers and/or gap between sets.

I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either.

The join won't work in siding 2 (had the same issue), but it should in siding 1 - both sets are 60m long, so will fit there all things being equal. I'm going to do this move again, but shift 5U94 to siding 2 and do the join in 1.

As suggested elsewhere, changing the stopping location to Far end exact as well, just to be on the safe side.

Advice followed and it worked perfectly, so it may well be worth adding to the manual or Wiki for that sim. Went on to finish the timetable with no further issues (other than a few self-inflicted ones) with a 91% score, so may give the 95-96 one a go next. Thanks for all the help.
