Just wondered if anybody had any photos of the panels at Wimbledon. I've seen photos of a lot of boxes on here and elsewhere but this one is very mysterious and I can't recall ever having seen one!

Personally, I'd love to see it as I'm a daily Waterloo commuter and there's some pretty interesting moves going on at peaks. Yesterday had four trains in and three trains out almost simultaneously.

Also, I've always wondered how the communication with SWTs WICC control centre is managed? For instance, a week or so ago a fuse blew meaning plat 1-14 was out of action for 25 minutes. This obviously caused a hell of a lot of disruption and cancellations and platform alterations were put in place very quickly. Is this a consultative process or do the signallers just do what they're told?

No, that one was decommissioned a good few years ago. 1990?

I meant the current one that controls Berrylands - Waterloo mainline.

I've been lucky enough to visit there twice, but have never got any photos :-(

WICC (Wessex Integrated Control Centre, located above platforms 1-5 at Waterloo) actually contains staff from Network Rail and South West Trains, and because they are all sitting in the same room, it makes communication during disruption very easy and they can all make very quick decisions about what to do with the service.

By the way, have you seen Waterloo SimSig? Controls from Waterloo to Earlsfield/Putney.

Yes seen it, played it and all the others too! Actually it's really useful for getting a handle on some of the conflicts they've got there in the track fan. Makes you appreciate why there is a gap in departures in real life when a 12 car goes from Up Main Fast into P7 blocking everything on the mainline!

Just out of interest when you were there, does the same person do arrivals and departures on the station panel?

i thought waterloo - clapham was split into two panels, along the lines of 1-10 with MS and MF lines, and 11-18 with the windsor lines controlled separately?

A split of arrivals and departures would be insane! I don't think anywhere in the world works like that.

Wimbledon Panels 1 and 2 cover around half of the station each, including the International platforms, down to past Vauxhall; essentially splitting the "Mains" from the "Windsor's". However, the split is a bit confusing, and I don't know exactly where it is. I think it used to be 1-12 and 13-24 or something.

panel 1 - earlsfield ish to wat plat 1-13 Main lines

Panel 2 Point Pleasant jn ish to wat pats 14-24 windsor side.

Intrestingly many up main fast trains will access waterloo via the Up main relief which acctually belongs to panel 2, hence an interpanel route from the UMF-UMR, then again back from the UMR if train to go in plat 13-8 also interpanel route!!

Is there any way you can change the picture size? It won't let me zoom in far enough to read it properly.
