News of a serious collision in southern Poland, on the mainline between Krakow and Warsaw. The BBC reports that two Express trains collided head-on where scheduled engineering works were taking place on one of the lines. Link to the BBC page. It would be useful if the BBC explained that it is normal for a train to be wrong roaded for this type of working. The error is obviously with the single line operation, not necessarily that train.

I'm always disappointed when such things end up with a single person being charged. If the system is such that a single human making an error can create such a disaster then I feel the system is in error and it's unfair to ruin someone's life for being unlucky enough to lose the running-an-unsafe-system lottery.

I quite agree with your comment. If this guy was working to the Rules and they failed him I see no reason why he should be prosecuted. However there has to be some sanction availabvle for people with this degree of responsibility (i.e. signallers) who are grossly negligent and work outside the Rules.
