In Simsig trains always ring up once they have been held at a red signal for 2 minutes. Does this always happen in real life or can drivers use common sense to decide whether to phone or not? For example if a freight train is signalled into a loop, it is fairly obvious that you are going to stay there until at least one train has gone past you and there would not be much point ringing up immediately.

The current rulebook instructs drivers to ring up immediately if they can't see a reason for being stopped at a signal.

IIRC, the standard has now changed for real life, where a driver will call in waiting at Red signal, as soon as the driver comes to a stand. (Unless your an ex-Southern driver :whistle: ) Some cases is that the signal has a black and white diagonal shevron board with a numerical value of how long to wait before calling. Log in to reply |

Drivers have been known to use their eyes - plenty at work do not call in if they can see a train travelling over a conflicting route in front of them.

New feature perhaps - drivers don't call if TC in front them is occupied? -Would have to be intelligent enough for them to call if it's a TCF, so maybe if the TC in front of the train is occupied then they wait slightly longer before calling? Log in to reply |

Have only ever seen or noticed such a sign once, as far as I can recall - the Platform starter on the Down Main at West Drayton (Great Western Main Line).
