A little later, having passed out for Junction Road in the interim, I visited Cricklewood Junction (a 120 lever monster of a box built by the LMS in the late 1920s or early '30s). This is the view looking north. The line to Dudding Hill and Acton Wells bears away to the left. The down goods starter (with calling on arm for permissive working and a miniature arm reading into the down reception - generally known as "the linger"is a Midland Railway structure, although it's lost its distinctive MR finials. All the other signals in this shot are LMS/BR tubular posts. A train is signalled up the local. Just to the right of that signal, the white ballast shows where work is under way to create the new Cricklewood Depot - the former No. 1 departure has been slewed into the No. 2 departure, rather than continuing through a single slip to form the 2nd up goods passing to the right of the box. It looks as if other bits of the former up sidings have been removed too. Post has attachments. Log in to view them. Log in to reply The following user said thank you: BarryM |

Another MR structure, again with finials removed, forming the up local home 2 with junction arm reading to the up fast. This signal formerly had a distant for Watling Street; by the time of the photo, both Watling Street and West Hampstead had been abolished and the starter at the London end of the platform was a colour light which also acted as Finchley Road's distant (with a 2nd yellow if Finchley had pulled off his home 1 but not home 2). The calling on arms are presumably for shunting purposes as neither line was permissive. To the right is the massively-braced structure carrying the down goods homes (reading to the down goods or the Acton line). Post has attachments. Log in to view them. Log in to reply |

If you can't beat them, join them. If this has worked properly, it should be St Andrew's Road Junction signal box, from SimSig Bristol. If it works, I will add some more. Post has attachments. Log in to view them. Log in to reply The following user said thank you: BarryM |

St Andrew's Road Junction Signal Box from the front. The Port Police did wonder what I was taking photo's of/for. The concrete block is the stop block at the end of the loco spur. Movements away from it are authorised by SA617. Post has attachments. Log in to view them. Last edited: 20/10/2012 at 23:59 by Signalhunter Reason: Additional info. Keith like the pictures of Cricklewood Junction box, IIRC I remember seeing 2 signalmen working the frame in that box & I suspect there was a box boy also. Not sure whether there was a regulator in that box. I know St. Pancras & Bedford North signal boxes had regulators in them. I've got a set of the signaling diagrams that were issued to the traincrew when West Hampstead was commissioned including one of Cricklewood depot box. Brings back memories, especially the word 'the linger' referring to the line between Cricklewood Recess Sdgs & the Up/Down Hendon Line. Keep them coming.

Another Romanian built Cl.56 this time 56006 stands on Toton New Bank on 100787. The white vertical posts were like 'stop boards' on a depot. The driver of the train standing next to these posts could communicate with the yard supervisor & similarly the supervisor could tell the driver to proceed with his train once Ratcifeowe hd sid they could accept it.
