What does happen if you press F4. Are there trains in the timetable or not?

Try to reduce the timetable to try to find out if there is any incompatible errors.
Use a smaller text file (with just the beginning of the file and some trains) and try if it working in this way.

By the way which version of Cambridge are you using? The one with 5 screens or the one with 6 screens?

The converter only converts: it doesn't load the converted timetable back in.

I think this is a really tricky question to answer as we don't know exactly what you did and now have. What I did when I wrote KX 1977, for which I used Convdata to generate the 313 service and other similar recurring trains, was write something direct to a timetable using the Sim, convert that to TXT and then continued from there. That at least ensured you had the headers correct and something to base your work on.
