Interesting article Peter. Even the Thalys had problems the other weekend being diverted from the HSL-Zuid high speed line and seen passing my hotel window overlooking Leiden Central. Familiar UK problems being blamed.......yes you guessed it overhead power cables.

Nice article. This person at least knows what he's talking about. It's better than what many Dutch newspapers have written about this train. In The Netherlands, the Fyra service via the HSL was widely criticised for not calling at The Hague. The city council there nearly decided to run their own train service to Belgium. Now, while Fyra to Brussels does not run, a replacement train has started to run, at first only during peak hours. It's not from Amsterdam because of lack of capacity / timetabling issues on the old mainline where many trains were added in the 2013 timetable, but from: The Hague. Not the central station, but Hollands Spoor station, but the past Benelux service (pre-dating Fyra) didn't call at the central terminus station either because it's a through service, not terminating at The Hague. The city likely wants to keep this train service in case the Fyra service restarts, so NS Hispeed will have a hard time avoiding The Hague in future. AJP in games Log in to reply |

A lesson there for train operating companies me thinks - Don't introduce new stock until it has been thoroughly evaluated and tested in all conditions

Absolutely unbeleivable!!  It is a wonder there isn't at least one death per day on that line. All I can think is that the frequency of trains is very quiet, maybe one per week? It is incredible that people live and shop so close to a running line!

Hehe :-). Funny after the train passes everyone puts the awnings back out and carries on as if nothing was even there
