Anywhere north of Glasgow Queen Street for me. Like Glasgow to Aberdeen , up to Inverness , Personal favourite of mine is the West Highland Line to Oban/Fort William/Mallaig. Wonderful scenery whatever the weather. Exception being when its foggy or very low cloud.

Settle & Carlisle line has to be my number one. Thereafter, a combination of: Carlisle - Barrow - Lancaster. Ayr - Stranraer. Manchester/Crewe - Chester - Holyhead. Llandudno - Blaenau Ffestiniog. Newxcastle - Edinburgh - Dundee - Aberdeen. Shrewsbury - Aberystwyth. Newcastle - Carlisle. Haven't done any of the really spectacular Scottish ones (Inverness - Kyle/Far North, Perth - Inverness or Glasgow - Oban/ Mallaig via Fort Bill) so haven't included them. New York - Washington via Philadelphia is probably my favourite non-UK trip. Last edited: 22/04/2013 at 17:11 by GMac Log in to reply |

Wherever I end up in life, I'll never forget the line from Exeter - Penzance and all the branches down here in (sunny) Devon. I was rather fond of the S&C though, and the Blaenau Ffestiniog branch was spectacular.

" said:" said:True, but technically any line with a ruling linespeed of more than 124MPH is classed as a high speed line :PI notice no one has yet to mention any modern high speed lines :PI've never ridden on any that would qualify, but I've not heard much good about HS1 from a scenic point of view.
