Hi all, someone said you can't chain Gloucester and saltley, so I opened Gloucester and saltley up as server and looked at connect to external signalbox. on Gloucester it said i could only chain to bristol and swindon but on Saltley it says i can connect to derby, gloucester, new street and walsall. another thing that confuses me is that there is no New street, walsall or derby sim. From the Gloucester simulation manual: Quote: Gloucester can be chained to Bristol (at Charfield) and SwinDid at Kemble. A future version will be able to chain to Saltley at Longbridge, however there is a difference in chain-related core code between the two simulations. Log in to reply |

I would presume that support is there for a future version of Gloucester

" said:... another thing that confuses me is that there is no New street, walsall or derby sim.Yet. It may also be a case of future proofing. Edinburgh has the option to connect to Newcastle (Tyneside) and CScot has the option to connect to Yoker. Both are unlikely to ever be produced as they are IECC's and on the no-can-do list. But are probably included on the basis of "never say never". Planotransitophobic! Log in to reply The following user said thank you: jwsetford |

Kings Cross also has the ability to chain to North London Line; an NLL version that supported this chain (the scrolly NLL) had not been made yet by then.

The box name could just be there for reference to give you some idea of what boxes the sim *could* connect to if the sims existed. It does not mean there is really a sim nor does it mean there is any of the additional chaining data either. The external box names are only a small part of the data needed to chain two sims. Both sims need to be altered so the data on both sides of the "join" between them matches. If it doesn't then it won't work correctly if at all. However, it you wanted to add chaining data then it requires you set up an external box whose name will show up in the list. This is regardless of whether the sim that is being chained exists or not or is even possible. Thinking of it another way, lets say Sim 1 is developed. It could be chained to Sim 2 but Sim 2 is yet to be developed. There is nothing stopping the developer of Sim 1 adding basic chaining data to Sim 1 in the event that someone does make a Sim 2 in which case they could potentially use the previously developed chaining data to link the two without having to rebuild Sim 1. The key is, and bear in mind I am a SimSig developer myself, it's just a name and doesn't mean anything. Edit: Oh and as there are no set rules, each developer is different. Some may add the external box names, some may not. Last edited: 19/04/2013 at 19:24 by Lardybiker Log in to reply |

" said:" said:Correct, "Newcastle" Sim exists as far as Berwick upon Tweed, Yoker Sim exists from Belgrove Jn and Westerton, NSCOT exists from Dyce and Dunkeld. As you say it's so that in the event that these are ever built the existing Sims will not need to be re-released.... another thing that confuses me is that there is no New street, walsall or derby sim.Yet. North Wales Coast can chain to a future Chester sim, saves me re-releasing it if Chester is ever developed.
