True, but technically any line with a ruling linespeed of more than 124MPH is classed as a high speed line :P

Well that's another new one to me. Where's that specified??

Ah, a conversion from the EU's 200kph - thanks for that. The 124mph appears to be entirely a Wonkypedia invention though - 125mph and above would fit much more sensibly ;-)

New York - Washington via Philadelphia is probably my favourite non-UK trip.
Last summer I wound up riding Amtrak from Boston to Philadelphia and back, and the section through New Jersey is probably some of the ugliest railroad around. On the Northeast Corridor, the section in eastern Connecticut between New Haven and Westerly, RI is probably the most scenic; further north in Rhode Island is one of the only bits the Acela Express can actually get up to 150 mph.

If you're going to Boston and riding trains anyways, for sheer scenic value I recommend the MBTA Boston (North Station) to Rockport line. Make sure to sit on the right side of the train leaving Boston. Not the nicest equipment by a long shot, but a pretty coastal ride.
