Hello, some time ago, in fact quite a long time ago, I had a "SimSig" programme on my computer, not this one, that one has long gone, anyway the programme was signalling Birmingham New St, it was absolutely brilliant, can I still get it please ?

I don't recall their ever having been a Birmingham New St. SimSig, Maybe you're thinking of SigCent which I believe at one time or other had one.

Yes it is SigCent.

I still have a copy in my "Backups" folder, just the demo model.

It's not bad, but after SimSig it was/is very lacking in real feel and operation.

That was a well kept secret then, I thought the only ones in production were Wembley Willesden Suburban , Three Bridges and Euston PSB.

If it could be compared to existing sims, what sims would it be similar to in terms of operating it?

Is there any others in the pipeline, Doncaster PSB maybe as there's a link in the Peterborough SimSig to link to it I believe.

I know there's certain areas that cannot be done ever but what about West Hampstead/Victoria/London Bridge?

What ever happened to the Croydon sim in production?

Somebody went to signalling school which took up most of the time since the previous meet. There weren't serious issues with the sims so hopefully they'll get released very soon.

Ah, cheers for that - must thank you and the team for my continuing addiction to SimSig, am enjoying myself with the scrolly Kings Cross sim and the 2009 timetable.

I know I'm being a bit cheeky asking this, but is this sim based on just the New St general station area or will it cover what the 1980s Saltley panel used to cover? I ask because my old home station (Solihull) came under Saltley panel - as did the station where I mis-spent most of my childhood spare time - Widney Manor! In those days Widney Manor was a four-track IBS with colour light distants (2X yellow & green) controlled by Solihull box & Bentley Heath Crossing box respectively.USER said:

Saltley doesn't control New Street station nor has it ever done as far as I know - there is certainly not room on the current panel for it.

New Street powerbox controls Birmingham International through New Street to Dudley Port, as well as Stechford/Duddeston through Aston and Perry Barr. The sim will cover exactly the same area.

Geoff.

I know this came up on the old site.

As I understand it the Stourbridge Extention was also transfered out of
Stourbridge Middle Box to New Street PSB, is this correct?
and what of the Smethwick West Jcn to Snow Hill section.

Probably to push out any signaller who delays trains unnecesarily :=D:=D:=D

Seriously, probably to be able to move BIG equipment in and out of the building with relative ease using some form of gantry (probably installed in the building).

NR

Looking carefully at the picture (I'd only looked at the miniature before) you can clearly see an overhanging girder which is probably what I mentioned before (a form of crane to move equipment up and down).

NR

I don't know anything about Stourbridge Middle Box, but New Street hands over to Stourbridge Junction (SJ) signals at Galton Jn towards Rowley Regis. I assumed SJ also took over the "new" bit through Jewellery Quarter. I know that Saltley (old box) took over from there and had Snow Hill on it - the latter has since been transferred to the Dome (West Midlands SCC). Saltley old box now only controls the King's Norton to Water Orton (and branches) bit, though it is slowly disappearing across the road.

Yes - the stairs inside are quite narrow and it's several flights of stairs to get to the equipment room (lower of the two holes)! Small lift as well, which might not have even been there when the box was built. The top floor is the operating floor but the door is nowhere near the actual panel area.

Sorry, case of local knowledge causing confusion. SJ WAS a 4 Mechanical box layout,
South, Mid, North (actual jcn control box) and Engine Shed.

After the re-signaling only the Middle box survived the demolition men and so
under NR became SJ, though last time through it still had "Middle" on the door.

I guess since the cat's out of the bag... overview only at the moment as it needs a little tidying up.
