There is a proposal of a railway Q&A site on Stack Exchange. This site is currently still in the "Definition" phase. As it currently states, it still needs:
to move to the next phase. Since I believe this site, if successfully launched, will be a great platform to I believe there will not be a conflict of interest with SimSig, since here we are more focused on the UK signalling simulation program - SimSig. Click the following image to reach the proposal page!  For those unfamiliar with format of Stack Exchange sites, here is a simple description:

So does it go on the same sort of principal as sites like 'yahoo answers'?

Actually the SO subwebsites do tend to be pretty good with information and corrections, mostly self moderating too (by peers). I just hope SO doesn't go the way of Experts-Exchange which went from being mostly unpaid to a paid site and couldn't maintain the userbase. However, I believe there are members on SimSig forum who are enthusiastic in railway stuff and some of them join the proposal to help, which can help speeding up the progress! Not if more railway experts join the site  Actually, as Geoff pointed out, the community will usually be able to determine which answers are good and which answers are bad. What's the point of a railway Q&A site? Surely the plethora of rail forums out there more than provide an adequate service.

There are tons of programming discussion forums pm the internet, yet StackOverflow.com is still very successful, mainly due to it operating in a Q&A format. I would say that a railway Q&A site would provide a better opportunity for people to ask questions and get answers. Log in to reply |
