BTW, maybe I should point out something. I'm not an admin of the site. I'm most willing to fiddle around with the icons and whatnots but it will need one of the admins of the site to actually change the original Agora/Joomla files for the ones I've modified so the world can actually see them in use. At the moment, it would appear Clive, Kurt and Peter are the admins of the site so it's up to them to consider implementing any of these images on the site. For the more T-shirty types: (JPG) (GIF) Hmmmm, not MY cup of tea though! NR Edit 1: Background could be made transparent in GIF (or in the JPG, the same as the forum background which would work until it gets changed!). Log in to reply |

I've had a dig around and I can't find the location of the default image. I can find what looks like a pointer but I can't work down to where it's pointing to. Peter I identify as half man half biscuit - crumbs! Log in to reply |

Peter, which of the images are you refering to? Maybe I can help you trace the location of the file (I've got Agora 3.0.07 downloaded - not installed). NR Log in to reply |

It's probably that I don't have all the permissions but here goes. In 'Options Avitars' is says Upload Directory 'components/com_agora/img/pre_avatars' so I'm guessing that the default is there somewhere but I can't get there. I have a 'components' option but there is nothing obvious under it. I wonder if we put the thing in the WIKI and pointed it at that? Provided I save the line above I guess a bit of fiddling would resolve that question. Peter No that just turns everyone's to default- so it must be the location of the bespoke avitars. Updated NoAvatar (version 4) as a JPG which is what appears to be in use in the forum pages. Peter, to replace the standard image I would try the following. Download the JPG and rename as "noavatar.jpg" (all lowercase). If FTP access is possible, upload the file to
/components/com_agora/img/pre_avatars
replacing the file there (you may wish to download the original first, or rename it). I have it on disk in case you need it back. In theory that should replace all the avatars for those who haven't chosen/uploaded an alternate one. Regards, NR Edit1: PD to test if the file has been properly uploaded you can open the following in a new browser window http://www.SimSig.co.uk/components/com_agora/img/pre_avatars/noavatar.jpg Log in to reply |

I used to have an FTP program somewhere, I'll see if I can find it but the I'm not sure what to do.... Peter Can't find it as such but it appears Delphi has some sort of ftp capability. I think at this point I'll email Geoff for instructions. Peter I identify as half man half biscuit - crumbs! Log in to reply |

Hi Nicholas, unfortunately for us mortals some of the required directories are 'No access' Geoff M almost certainly will be able to change the status of the 'img' directory so that he can replace the buttons and avatars. The top image directory is currently accessible and images 1.jpg, 2.jpg etc. can be changed easily. Ken Log in to reply |

Geoff and Nicholas, these are the latest offerings as icons/jpgs etc for the site. As a top image (2.jpg) for testing. As a replacement for the default avatar. As replacements for the most used round icons. Just suggestions... from Tallington and nroberts any more anyone? Especially top images! Ken Log in to reply |

Ken/Nicholas Just looking at the icons, do we have to stick with the circular indicators for the topic identifiers. The more I look at the existing forum, the more clunky the indicators look. Can't remember for sure what the old forum used but was not one of the indicators for new postings the text "NEW" or "UPDATED" on a yellow splash background. Please don't think this is any criticism of what has been done - it's just the usual of ask for one thing, decide you don't like it and ask for something else! John, that's precisely why we are putting them up - to stimulate ideas and within size reasons 'anything' is possible. Just didn't want to go too far first time! (and there was no point in doing too much if Geoff can't stick them in the right directories as some are locked. We know the 'top' images CAN be changed and we can have many!) Ken Log in to reply |

JG, To follow up on Ken's response, this first "batch" was maybe more of an experiment to ensure that it can be done and how to go about it. Undoubtedly (as I mentioned a few posts back) these icons were mainly cobbled together just to add text as per you request (back on page one! =)) As far as I've been able to gather, we are limited to images which are 48 pixels wide and 48 pixels tall. These images CAN have transparent backgrounds since they're in .PNG (Portable Network Graphics) format. I've never been too much of an artistic person so I limited myself to fiddle around and try and somewhat improve what we had. I'm quite willing to help out if anyone has any other suggestions for the design of the icons. After today and tomorrow I'll have some more time available (tomorrow's my end of year and being a teacher you can guess what that means in terms of paperwork!) and I'll look into designing some more stuff. Feel free to suggest and/or design your own. In the mean time, I think the idea is to test the actual going "on-line" with these new ones to confirm it's viable. I'm sure (if admins are agreeable) that there will be no problem if better options come up (and are generally accepted) to later change them over. Regards, Nicholas Log in to reply |

Done - except the top image which was too small and tiled itself. Stretching wouldn't have looked good. Can you redo the image as 957px × 170px please?

Geoff, you most likely got the mini version (the picture in the topic). The original is 957 x 170 at: http://www.SimSig.co.uk/components/com_agora/img/members/125/tornado3.jpg The New Hot was to replace the New/Active which is the only regular one used that doesn't appear to have been replaced (yet). The pages DO need refreshing to get all of these updates viewable! The SimSig Avatar is far better now, I think! Regards, Ken Log in to reply |

Geoff, In your attempts yesterday (still today here in Argentina) did you try changing the favincon.ico file for the default site icon? (the one that appears on the favourites menu and the browser tabs) I'm still getting the old square with diagonals. As for the top banner, I can only still see 1.jpg (the composite of panel, trackwork and King's cross 91's lineup) and 2.jpg (the mountain scene). Regards, Nicholas Log in to reply |

Nicholas, this is the link to your favicon zip file for Geoff to look at. http://www.SimSig.co.uk/components/com_agora/img/members/191/favicon-version-2.zip This is one I knocked up from an image - the image is in png format but will need converting to ico. Just click on them to get actual size. The favicon is the tiny one on the URL and Tab title boxes above! When he tried to overlay 2.jpg he used the mini version of the Tornado file not the full width/height one. http://www.SimSig.co.uk/components/com_agora/img/members/125/tornado3.jpg Hopefully he will do that next time along with the 'New Hot' icon which hasn't changed on my screen yet. http://www.SimSig.co.uk/components/com_agora/img/members/125/icon-newhot-version-4.png Ken Log in to reply |

I've "pulled" the SimSig logo from the sims and also put it up. This one is in 32x32 size. The RAR'ed .ico file (Click me!) The JPG version of same (so it can be seen in the post) I've also "pulled" the green icon with the lightning bolt (which I don't like too much). If wanted I'll upload the .ICO version. This is the JPG: I've tested using this 32x32 icon in: Firefox (3.5.5), Internet Explorer 7.0.5730.13 and Apple Safari 3.2.3 on a live site and all display the icon perfectly in the address bar and the tabs. Check the provisional site at cpem17.com.ar if you wish (I'll be taking it down later in the evening). As per http://www.w3.org/2005/10/howto-favicon the icon could actually be GIF or PNG as well (That means transparencies!=) - Ooops probably pointless in an icon this small :/) and can be either 16x16 or 32x32. Wikipedia says 64x64 is also valid but I'd prefer to believe W3C Regards, Nicholas Log in to reply |

It would appear that the 32x32 icons still are made to fit in the 16x16 space in the URL and Tabs. I checked out www.cpem17.com.ar and then used zoom to see if they were any clearer but not on my screen - 1280x800 FF3.5.5 WinXp standard font Ken Log in to reply |
