I have asked this before but a) can't remember the answer and b) am unable to research due to site hack. So I ask again (sorry)...

What is the purpose of the Warner route from signal 705 (St. Denys) to signal 709 (Mt Pleasant LC)? The full overlap beyond signal 709 does not lock anything up and it does not cause the LC to operate on approach. The short overlap still extends across the LC so the Warner cannot have anything to do with it. Any help would be appreciated.

I think it is because of the sometime busy nature of Southampton, you may have a train waiting at 713 and so you have the option of signalling a train at 705 forward to 709 via the warner route to allow any train behind it to stop at St. Denys instead of being left outside the station (which would likely affect your score, etc).

Give it a try, signal the route from 713 to 719 then signal a route from 705 to 709 and you'll notice the small gap left (any train waiting at 713 will mean the route isn't available due to a lack of overlap available) so you can use the warner route to signal the train to clear the platform at St. Denys then any train behind it can make it's scheduled stop there without affecting it's punctuality!

Hope this helps.

ok, sorry to drag up an old thread, I final have the answer to this, the full overlap is always needed for routes from 705, the short overlap is used by routes from 703 on the netley as line speed much lower. though not reflected on current version/s will be fixed on new release
