why they don't divert the trans pennines through lincoln is beyond me. surely a longer run is better than non at all??
and they don't have to stop there either
As was said above, the Lincoln line can only handle 3-4 trains an hour. With the every two hours passenger service and a few freight diverts thrown in (in addition to freight that normally goes that way), the line reaches capacity very quickly. There is also the issue of whether Barnetby- Lincoln- Gainsborough is cleared for Class 185s (probably not, since they normally have no need to go anywhere near there), and you'd still have to train TransPennine drivers on that route, which would probably take a couple of months.

Even if you managed all that, you've still got the problem of finding sufficient units and crew for the (lengthy) diversion as well as maintaining a shuttle service to Scunthorpe - to where the replacement bus service would still need to run anyway.

As regards shunter and radios - what shunter with what radios?
Well exactly, that is sadly how life goes - I'm guessing the nearest one would probably be buried somewhere in Immingham these days?

It's also expected that freight will be gradually moved over from the diversionary routes, rather than all at once, as the site will be "closely monitored" for further movement!

RIP Mount Hatfield (at least as far as the nearby field where much of the material has been "temporarily" deposited)!

God bless, Daniel Wilson

Line to re-open at 05:00 tomorrow (Monday 7th July):

Article here

It mentions Northern are supplementing the train service with a bus until the 29th- does anyone know why?

I think it's to do with drivers' route signing having lapsed, and it will take time to get them all back up to speed.

I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either.

The route re-opened this morning shortly before 0500. The hourly semi-fast Sheffield-Hull/Bridlington/Scarborough services will still be diverted via Selby for the enxt 3 weeks. As suggested, this is route knowledge related.

Most freight has returned to their normal booked routes, but there are some odd diverted paths still showing, but I don't know if these are genuine or errors.

There is a 30 over 40 TSR (Temporary Speed Restriction) in place as well.

God bless, Daniel Wilson

I've been playing the TT for this for the last few weeks and its one of the best Simsig timetables out there for single player. Highly recommend downloading South Humberside , the diversionary TT and give it a go. Fiendish doesn't begin to describe it. There is only so much you can fit down those single lines. Well done.
