I was just wondering if a train is running with loss of power whether this state is transferred to the new working of the unit or if the new service runs normally with full power. I have 5r01 running with loss of power on kings cross 2012 and therefore wondering if this will effect 2r01 as well

All the time that 'loco or unit' is in the sim, despite what train it runs at it will run with a loss of power

Sorry, I like to make things complicated:

What would happen if I decided to call out a replacement unit/loco for 5R01 and that then became 5R01? Would that also (unrealistically) run with Loss-of-power because it has the same reporting number, or would it be fine because the sim somehow works out it is a different unit/loco, leaving the slower unit/engine to go to depot for repairs?

The fresh unit would run fine, the defective one would remain defective. The train reporting number is irrelevant

The 'low power' conditions are associated with the 'train' not with the timetable of the train, so your freshly created replacement would be fine.

Are you sure that the loss of power is remembered across a change of timetable? I've tried it in Fenchurch Street and the outbound service ran normally, without any loss of power.

I believe the OP is talking about one train forming another within the same session, not across a save/load.

(I don't know the answers to the other questions right now - sorry)

Not necessarily unrealistic. I'm not a T&RS man, but I think it's conceivable that shutting down one cab and opening another might lead to the fault no longer affecting the train. (Of course it might then reappear when the original cab was re-opened at t'other end of the line.) Alternatively, Fitter's Attention might well account for a sudden spring in its step.

Yes it's quite possible that the fault my occur only at one end, especially traction problems on a 317/321 for instance. Its also highly concievable that a fault could be cured upon arrival at a destination station in the case of AC EMUs with the driver carrying out a full unit reset/reboot (especially on troublesome 365s!) which would only take a minute or so.

What i'd like to know is this: 5R01 enters with a loss of power. 2R01, its next working, also runs with a loss of power. This train goes into Letchworth Carriage Sidings in the recent-ish KX timetables and re-enters several minutes later from the north end. Does this re-entered 2R01 still run with a loss of power?

The key is whether the train "disappears" from the train list or not.

There are two locations north of Letchworth in the KX sim. One is the reversing sidings. The other is the carriage sidings.

Trains using the reversing siding never leave the sim and aren't removed from the train list. The trains may change headcode but they remain in the sim at all times. Any loss of power issue will likely follow the train (assuming the reversing action doesn't cancel that fault).

Trains using the carriage sidings meanwhile, actually leave the sim and are removed from the train list and any settings they may have had are then immediately lost.

Any train that enters is a completely new train. There is still a chance that this newly entered train could also be subject to running under a loss of power but this is down to the randomness of the "loss of power" fault happening to a train entering the sim in general. The fact a previous incoming service had a fault is merely a coincidence.
