Can someone please help me with the Subscriptions thing. I don't feel the need for ongoing updates by e-mail so prefer not to have my name on any subscription list. However, on random occasions when I make a posting on this Forum, I start receiving subscription e-mails in regard to that topic while other postings do not kick start the e-mails.

I don't think I am doing anything different when I post, but there must be something in the set-up I am missing. Has anyone else noticed the same and have they found a cure?

Postal,
Maybe I can return the favour here. When you type a message response there are three options at the bottom of the page.
Hide smiles/Merge posts and subscribe. If you untick the subscribe box that should do the trick. Must admit I got caught out with that one.
And I have just unticked the box for my response

Postal,
Sorry but I forgot to say it is also the same when you start a new topic. Go down and untick the subscribe box

Postal,

At the top of the forum is the 'Users' menu, hover your mouse over that and select 'Profile'.

Once the page has loaded, look down the left-hand side menu (to the right of the main website menu) for the 'Subscriptions' link and click on that.

On the page loaded, check that the "Auto Subscriptions" box isn't ticked - if it is ticked then untick it and click the 'Submit' button below and the page should reload with the box unticked.

Now look below the submit button and you should see a list of topics you're currently subscribed to. For each topic it shows the topic name/title, the author, the replies and also an 'Unsubscribe' link. Simply click on that link for the topic that you wish to unsubscribe from.

However I note from your profile you have (currently, at the time of writing this) 216 posts which means you are likely subscribed to 216 topics which means you would probably have to click the unsubscribe link 216 times to stop receiving eMails for all topics. Instead, you may wish to choose topics to unsubscribe from whilst leaving yourself subscribed to other topics of interest to yourself.

Hope this helps.

I think Preview may be the culprit here - I've noticed that the subscribe box sometimes gets ticked when you go into Preview mode, requiring it to be unticked before Submitting. That said, it's not happening at the moment so it might be something that was fixed in Geoff's recent Joomla upgrade.

Thanks for all that. As a matter of policy, I very rarely subscribe to any messaging service or feed and if the Auto-Subscriptions box in my profile is ever checked, it will not be my doing so I suspect there is something in the Joomla software that is mis-reading something I am trying to do.

Like Nick, I suspect that it may be something to do with the Preview. However, the reason for my raising the topic in the first place was because my response about Peterborough to northroad this morning subscribed me to that topic without any intervention from myself. That implies that whatever it is, the latest Joomla upgrade has not killed it.
