Hey guys, I was wondering if there was a way that I could place the overview window on a different monitor and have the normal view on another :). Has anybody done it? Does anybody have a guess? :S Thanks Log in to reply |

I assume you're referring to the paged sims? The only way I know to have two (or more) windows open is to start one as a multiplayer server, then launch a second copy of the sim and have it join the first - put "localhost" or "127.0.0.1" in the IP box to connect to a host on the same computer. (No need to faff with port forwarding etc. for a local game)

If you have two monitors connected and set up as extended desktop (as opposed to cloned desktop) then you can drag windows across left/right from one to the other. The extended desktop setting is likely to be within a control program specific to the graphics card.

First you need to set you monitor up to be an extended desktop as GoochyB points out. Once that's done then you need to setup the sim and there are two ways depending on the type of sim you run 1) Paged Sim For paged sims the overview cannot be show at the same time as a "detailed" view and as a result, your only option is to do what Entimix suggested. Run one copy of the sim as a server on one screen and run a second copy as a client that shows the second screen. Then all you need do is arrange to have both sims on different monitors. I've not run a paged sim in forever so I don't remember if you can drag a non-windowed page sim onto you second monitor. You may need to run them in windowed mode to do that. It's certainly possible in windowed mode I know that much. 2) Scrolly sims The scrolly sims comes with the main view and a hidden overview. To put the overview on your second monitor, simply enable it then drag the window onto your second monitor. The overview is not sizable mind you so even if you have more space on the second monitor, you won't be able to make it bigger. With the second monitor though you can of course show more of the detailed track layout too without the need to run two copies of the sim (one of the advantages of the scrolly). You can do this by either widening the main view so it covers both monitors or you could create a second view of a different part of the sim and drag that onto the second monitor. Thanks guys :) I've used the duplicate view with Trent and it works fine. Mind you, I have to get used to moving my mouse higher up the screen in order to create routes. Log in to reply |
