Hi - hoping someone might be able to offer some hips and tints on this issue:

I like to create timetable rules to better simulate real life - such as minimum 2 min station stops for HSTs - I've rarely seen one dispatched any quicker at a major station.
Sim timetables are often updated and I would like to copy my rules into the updated timetable - so the question is - is there a simple way to do this? I did try merging timetables (mine with rules and the new one) once but it involves a lot of deleting of duplicate trains.

Also - do some sims have minimum station dwell and turnaround times built in? If so - how can I find this out so I'm not doing something that may already be part of the sim.

Thanks in anticipation of your help.

Nick

Some of the newer sims (the ones using the loader) allow you to set various dwell times as part of the train types window. Click Dwell times and you can change these things around.

Default dwell time for PAX trains is 30 secs I think.

However in the lateest releases (ie Loader ones) there is an option to set custom dwell times within train TTs, but I've not yet fully conversant with the detail.

Edit: so OK, someone else is a better typist.

I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either.

does anyone know with all the new possibilities with dwell times...if you set a time for a train type of 10min for terminate reverse and also a join/divide time of 4min does it add the two together to give a turnaround of 14min or just use the longest out of the two i.e 10min

cheers Gareth

The most important thing which you need to know is that the entries specifically marked as a dwell (terminate forward, terminate reverse etc). only start counting down after any actions have been completed (so if you have a train with a 10 minutes stopping time and also a loco change and you set the dwell time in the train type or TT to 10 minutes, that time only starts counting down after the loco change has been completed).

Glad I've noticed this thread.

I'm currently working on a timetable which features trains with various dwell times for different trains. primarily becuase its in an era when trains still carried parcels in the guards van, and there many more station duties.

that given, I want trains to have a dwell of around 4 mins minimum (can be more). that given I'm thinking the use of rules will still apply:

if i have for instance a train which is booked to change locos or drop/pickup traffic then it would be best to apply a rule as it guarantees that OVERALL the train only waits X mins including a loco change, rather than adding X mins on (which would be silly).

I actually thought (and still think it would make more sense) for the dwell time to apply to the overall time stopped, rather than just post Activities.

We can try to do section about this "by Class" on the Wiki later, Just a idea (if possible to do).

e.g: I've seen a video of HST, the "station forward" is 20 secs (time for the guard buzzer to be checked), just an example.

Cheers, CTC.
