Running Westbury v4.2 b2.



Please, how do I get 6V35 into Beechgrove Sidings? I can't set a route to the MOD (whatever that is) and assume that the sidings are at the other end of the junction. Searched forum and manual with no result. Tried clicking the ground frame buttons but still no joy.

6V35's current direction is UP and status is "Waiting for right-away at Beechgrove MOD G.F. (rev)".

P.S. I have already phoned Beechgrove and obtained permission.

Left click "F" of the ground frame release to make the roundel flash white.

On the toolbar click "Show".

From the "Lever Frame" dropdown menu select "Beechgrove G.F".

Place a tick in the "Annetts Key" box.

Move slider 1 and 3 for entry.

Move slider 1 and 2 for exit.

Thanks John, it worked. Wouldn't have guessed that in 100 years.

Seems odd that, unlike other sidings, there's no exit arrow (grey triangle) which I could click to set a route.

After train has entered Beechgrove sidings is it sufficient just to close the GF box or do I need to perform everything in reverse (reset levers, uncheck Annetts key, etc.?

Yes you need to do everything in reverse.
You don't need to guess what to do, there is an explanation on how to use the ground frames in the documentation.
Some of the other sims require extensive use of ground frames, so you get to learn how to use them.

The entry to the sidings is controlled by a Ground Frame- a small set of levers used to manually work points that are rarely used. Because the points are rarely used/the signalling was done on the cheap, no signals are provided for entry/exit from the sidings. The idea is to have less point motors to maintain. The green release seen in the main view is what the signaller sees, the separate window represents the driver's view. You have to perform everything in reverse, otherwise the points are just left set into the sidings!

Generic Ground Frame:





This is Chorley Ground Frame, and is used to work a crossover on a double track section of line. The crossover is only used in emergencies, or when the line beyond Chorley is shut due to engineering works. The blue/brown lever is the interlocking lever with Preston signal box (which cannot be moved unless Preston has released it) and the black lever works the points (which cannot be moved unless the interlocking lever has been pulled). White levers are spare. The rodding connecting one of the points to the lever can be seen running parallel to the track.

If you see the text "GF" on your diagram, you are dealing with a Ground Frame, which is explained by Steamer, above.

in addition, the Wiki page on Ground Frames seems a bit empty. I guess because the information is in Lever Frames.

I did consider creating a set of documents listing the locking details of each Lever Frame. I've attached one written for King's Cross- what do people think of it? If people find it useful, I'll write one for other simulations.

I've edited and linked both entries in the Wiki so this should resolve confusion. Also the Wiki Index page refers users who look up Ground Frames to the Lever Frames page.

GFs have been on Sims for several years now: This page has an original date in March 2011.

That same command has been available since long before the migration to the loader sims. You must have managed to avoid the sims where you needed to use a GF.

I try to avoid them like the plague.

However, what seems new to me are these symbols "GF: N (button) F (button)". I don't recall seeing any explanation of them in the Wiki, or perhaps I missed the right page.

Also, there should be some explanation to newbies on how to move trains OUT of Beechgrove siding, though I eventually figured that one out myself (pats self on back).

That was my dilemma when I thought about writing those documents- they're all *basically* the same (some kind of release, point lever, some kind of signal), but as with anything, there's some variation. Once you've seen a few of them, it becomes fairly obvious how to work them- hover the mouse over the lever to get a description of what it does.

Added to symbols page.

Would it be worth merging the Lever Frames and Ground Frames pages on the wiki into a single Ground Frames page? They serve the same purpose, and it seems like needless duplication. Also, Ground Frames is more obvious than Lever Frames, since that's what they're called in the simulation and on the rest of the Wiki.

However, the menu option is labelled "Lever Frames". So a reference to both is currently required.

The phrase "lever frame" is used because it includes ground frames, shunt frames, anything that involves somebody operating levers/plungers/buttons.
