Hi all, I am currently working on a timetable for Kings Cross (Loader version) which will use the modern layout with 8 platforms at Finsbury Park. However I have a query regarding train entry times at Letchworth CS. A look at realtimetrains.co.uk (RTT) gives the following timing points for trains leaving Letchworth CS on the day I am working on: - Letchworth C.S.D - Letchworth CS Reception - Letchworth A/d line There are waiting times at Letchworth CS reception and there is no Letchworth A/d line shown on the sim. What would be the best timing to use as the entry point? I guess the departure time from the Letchworth A/d line but no harm in checking as I don't want to have bugs that I can't correct once the data has vanished (although that will be a while yet). Cheers, Dave Log in to reply |

According to Quail, the Reception is the simulation's north exit, and the A/D line is the south exit. The layout is slightly different to the simulation though- according to Quail, there's no turnback siding, but instead two A/D roads at the south end of the sidings. The CSD itself is a fan of tracks, which converge near the northern exit. Google Map, with (hopefully) the A/D roads and Reception marked. Steamer, Thanks for that. I think I will use the departure from the arr / dep line as the entry point. Could be the best way of doing things. Dave Log in to reply |

Use the time from the A/D line. It should be approx 2 minutes from the train entering to the arrival time at Letchworth station. For some reason the sim is different to the real life set-up. Trains for the south exit the CS onto the reception line (up to K951 at the north end) and the driver changes ends. The shunter pulls hand points and authorises the driver past a stop board. The train then stops at another stop board and the driver will contact the signaller. The sig will tell the driver either A/D line (K240 - south exit on the sim) or south reception (K238 - rev sdg on the sim). The driver then sets hand points accordingly and will draw up to the signal. RTT shows the timing point as A/D line but trains can use either A/D or south reception to enter/exit the CS, via the north reception, depending on whichever line is free. Looking at historical imagery, it seems that the South Rec/Turnback Siding may have been single-ended until a few years ago, although the quality makes it quite hard to tell for sure. There is one north-facing siding still in situ alongside the south reception albeit with no connection. I believe there were some layout changes when the carriage sidings were electrified. There is evidence of several more sidings which are long gone after the demise of the domestic coal workings to Letchworth.
