Unless someone else has already pulled something together, I'm planning to create some sort of summary of the New Street platform lengths using the Timetable Planning Rules document.

I can help with this, as I am a former platform supervisor at BHM. PM me if you want a hand.

In case people find it helpful, I thought I'd share a visual summary of platform length information that I have created for New Street. I've created this is in response to a shoutbox query at the weekend, and to try to make the information easier to understand.

Red indicates A platforms, Green B platforms, Yellow the middle section between the signals on the A and B platforms e.g. between 184 and 185 on platform 10, and Black the end sections e.g. between 162 and 163. Blue represents platform 4C.

Platform lengths are given in metres, with the gridlines at 46m intervals, which I estimate to be close to two typical DMU/EMU car-lengths (158, 170, 323, 220/221).

The platform lengths are taken from the Timetable Planning document, though I cannot guarantee consistency with the sim itself.

Wow, that's a really useful diagram and would be good for other sims as well, any chance of resaving it as a PNG / GIF and putting it on the Wiki?

I'd also like to chime in and say that despite working in a field where using graphs is very common, it's rare to see a graph that communicates this amount of information with no need for a description!

I've attached a PNG version in case someone wants to add to the Wiki (I don't think I have the relevant privileges).

I think it would only really simplify the information where there are signals separating platforms on the same track e.g. Bristol; otherwise it's as easy to read a table? Which sims did you have in mind?

Did you register on here before 27/11/2011? If so, you already have a Wiki account with the same Forum details you had on that date. If you didn't, write a post on here asking a moderator for a Wiki account.

Thanks Steamer- I hadn't realised that. I've now updated the reference section in the Wiki.

As well as Bristol, KGX could be useful even just as a reminder for newcomers of the relative lengths of P9/10/11 (shorter) and P1/6 to the rest.

Thank you for adding the Brum one to the WIKI.

I've had a go at creating some more of these diagrams on a similar basis- see the attachments. The King's Cross version has grid lines at shorter intervals (41m) to represent two EMU car-lengths. Let me know if any of these are useful and I can upload them to the relevant wiki pages.

Nice creative work, many thanks. As it's said, a picture is worth a thousand words.
