In SimSig I've noticed two different behaviors for Warner (ROL) routes when automatic working ("A" button) is activated and when the signal in advance is cleared after the Warner is.

1) Once the signal in advance is cleared the Warner route upgrades to a normal overlap - why not, there is no real use of the ROL at that point...

2) Once the signal in advance is cleared the Warner route keeps it's restricted overlap - also handy if there is a converging junction involved...

Is there some criterion for deciding which of the two scenarios is implemented?

Thanks!

Dave

It could be any number of reasons.

Age of installation, requirements of the Operations Department, standards applicable at the time, even the designers personal preference.

I'm not sure I understand the question as you seem to describe two consecutive steps for the same thing rather than two methods of operation. A warner route is set, the auto button pressed, and then the warner steps up to a main when a forward route is set, then steps back down again to a warner after the forward route has been released? I believe that is required as the signaller requested the warner route to be in auto, not the main, and this is SimSig default behaviour - not sure the developer can alter that.

Do you have a pair of examples, if I'm not understanding correctly?

On a side note, have a look on Liverpool Street for some warner routes that step up to a main without a forward route set if the main is free to set. That's not so common and probably depends on local requirements.

As Geoff says,

If you select Auto with a Warner Route set it should remain a Warner.
If you select Auto with a Main Route set it should remain a Main

All Warners should be able to "Step Up" to a main class route when the forward route is set and then "Step Down" to a Warner once a train has taken the route. They must not step down when you cancel the forward route.

Using Balham for an Example.

If we set a warner route on 629.

Setting the forward route will allow 629 to "Step Up to a Main Class"

If we then cancel the forward route it is imperative that 629 remains a main class route with a Full overlap.

With 629 in Auto it will remain as either a Warner or Main depending which route was set when the Auto button was pressed.

Here we have a Warner Route set with the Auto button pressed.

The signal "Steps Up" to a Main Class

The Train Passes and it "Steps Down" to a Warner class ready for the next train.

If I'd of set a Main Class route and pressed Auto you would have the situation below. (Note a train has just passed through the section)

Thanks so much for the descriptions!!

Now if I do see an anomaly I will know that it is one.
