I happened to be using Google Maps on part of the UK at a fairly high zoom level today and noticed that where a railway line was displayed things were now showing down to individual track level (including things like crossovers, loops, sidings etc.) so it was almost at the Quail level. Most of the places I then looked at seemed to be pretty accurate to the extent that I only spotted the omission of 2 crossovers in the middle of a long stretch of plain track on the ECML. However, that was by no means an exhaustive survey. Does anyone know if Google Maps is now reliable enough to use as a reference when checking on anything at that level of detail? However, that was by no means an exhaustive survey.I would not advise on google maps. If you are looking for track and xover details, I would advise you check out platform 5's track atlas. It seems to be good at showing the number of tracks, but crossovers etc. are hopelessly inaccurate. To be honest, you'd be better using the satellite view.

The track details are also quite outdated in places - at least 10 years in some cases - and there are missing or misaligned parts. From a quick glance, Paddington-Old Oak Common is riddled with mistakes and missing tracks.
