As the subject says: what is the official name of this station? Is it Newark Northgate or Newark North Gate? Station signage seems to be confused, and even different pages on both TheTrainline.com and National Rail Enquiries seem to have different styles. I go through Northgate regularly from home at Lincoln. I'm sure most signage I see has Northgate on it. Certainly the one I've always gone with for some reason. Hope I don't muddy the waters.  Mal. Log in to reply |

The sectional appendix shows it as Newark North Gate so if that is what you consider to be the definitive document then that is what you should go with. As an aside there is a similar situation in one of the Peak District villages near me. The sign on entering the village from one end says YOULGREAVE whilst the sign at the other end of the village says YOULGRAVE. Wikipedia redirects Northgate to North Gate, so that's their stance. I can't see there ever being a 'definitive' answer so I think 'both/either' is the best you'll get! Log in to reply |

If I remember correctly, it depends which sign you look at (both spellings appear on signs on the station)!

My last name is a simple English word with the normal spelling ("Eaves"), and yet I regularlly get "Ev-es" (two syllables, first one rather like "heav from heavy"), "Evans", etc

As Colpman I frequently get called Coleman, Coltman and various other things. I've also had "Pulpman" and a few other weirder ones. As an aside, we once got a letter through the door with the most extraordinary address. Every line of the address while clearly being intended for our house had some kind of error on it - including the country, which was "UK Raine".
