I've had an idea which may or may not go down well but I thought I'd put it out there as a suggestion. I recently got into a sticky patch on Carlisle where there were a lot of options to take in order to get things running on time again. I saved the simulation and recorded my score after an hour and went back to see if I could do a better job at it second time round. Needless to say I did but I still could have done better. Now I thought this could be a good idea for the community to try, posting the file and then allowing other members to have a go and post their scores after an hour. To make this work it would take a degree of honesty stating your score after each attempt. Anyway I'll leave it open to your thoughts! I just think it would be a great idea for those days where there aren't many online sessions. Jumping straight into the deep end would be fun and have a competitive edge. Log in to reply |

Sounds good fun. Should have some rules up front. I think 5 mins on pause to start is reasonable just to get your head around the situation, then 60 mins normal speed - no pausing or reducing speed.

Even replaying the same saved game would not give a level playing field for entrants as the random events will be different each time the start point is run. Thus, I may be doing an excellent job then I get a TCF or points failure that, for instance, blocks the points south of Derby station preventing me from sending any train towards 1 of the 2 routes. If this lasted any significant length of time I end up with platforms full and a queue of trains stretching back to Burton/Long Eaton/Clay Cross. My score is wrecked. Alternatively I get a signal failure on the Line between Bardon and Derby which disrupts no trains whatsoever! Log in to reply |
