I'm currently stuck out in Spain and the weather is not what it should be! I tried downloading P'boro onto my netbook (I used to work at the Lt Barford sidings) and it refused to work because my screen res is only 1024 x 600. So i've now downloaded KX which does work so my winge does not need an urgent response, but is there a good reason why the screen res has to be so high for PB?

Guess it's because PBO is paged, with a fixed screen size whereas KX is scrolly which fits to the available screen.

Shot in the dark, but have you tried setting SimSig to "windowed mode". Open a sim that will let you in, go to the F3 screen and check the "windowed mode" box under the display tab. Close down and then try the PBO sim. You may then see it in a window which you can move around. Only a guess, but it might work. Thanks folks. I Think Andy is right. In another thread Clive points out he developed PBO and prefers paged mode. I have just tried to download the Drain which I believe is also Clive's and get the same response. Postal - Neither Bristol nor KX has a windowed mode available to choose, so your suggestion doesn't help. I'll have to wait for Clive to come along Log in to reply |

I think it's probably only the paged sims that have a windowed mode option - the scrolly sims are always windowed. I think the resolution of paged sims is 1024x768, so you would probably need this as a minimum to run them.

Is it not possible to temporarily change the screen setting long enough to enable the box to be ticked? Peter I identify as half man half biscuit - crumbs! Log in to reply |

Both simulation types use a font size of 8x16 pixels. The paged sims use a screen size of 128x48 characters, which comes out as 1024x768 pixels. The advent of netbooks was actually a backward step in the evolution of monitors/screens as previously 768 pixels high was quite common! Depending on your hardware/drivers, you might be able to use a virtual screen size larger than that of the physical size, albeit with scrolling, though this is far from ideal. Unfortunately with the paged sims the minimum requirement is 1024x768.

Thank you all for your input. It will take me ages to get through a day at Bristol, so as I said "not urgent". I will have to investigate virtual screen resolutions once I've got the hang of Windows 7. And the sun has come out today so I'd better go and lie in it while I can!

Not used Windows 7 but it is possible in Vista to change the Simsig default windowed mode in the registry... Launch Regedit. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Simsig/Options. Right at the bottom is an entry called "WindowedMode". Right click and select Modify. In the "Value Data" box change it to 0 for Full Screen or 1 for Windowed. **** Note that it is not advisable to muck about in the Registry unless you know what you are doing. *** Planotransitophobic!
