Afternoon all, I am currently looking at doing a TT for Stafford in the early 1990s & whilst I have most of the info I need nailed down to facilitate the TT, I am stuck on information for a couple of freight trains and was wondering if anyone could shed any more light on them for me? Information I have is that they are "probably Cl.47 hauled chemical services", but scouring the t'interweb I haven't been able to come up with any photographic evidence to back this up. The trains I seek info on are; 6L36 TTHO 19:59 Port Sunlight Van Den Bergh to Purfleet & 6M48 TO 18:00 Haverton Hill Exchange Sdgs to Willesden Brent Sdgs From a WTT, it appears 6M48 changed traction @ Warrington Arpley. 6L36Paul I wouldn't pay too much attention to the bit in the WTT as changing locos at Warrington because IIRC it was usually hauled by a Cl.47 diesel throughout. In the 1988 Speedlink loco diagrams TI.54 loco worked 6L36 1952 FSX COY Port Sunlight(Bromborough) - Purfleet this train returning with the empties. The loaded train ran as 6M16 1942 FSX COY Purfleet - Port Sunlight which was coverd by TI.53 diagram. 6M16 was the loaded train & as a result was time sensitive due to the commodity it conveyed. It conveyed hot edible oil from Van den berghs at Purfleet in tank wagons. As far I remember this train was hauled by a diesel throughout because as the product cooled in the tank wagons it solidified, therefore stopping the train to change traction wasn't really a good idea.

Paul further to my above post in my 1985 Chester Area Freight Train Loads Book the loadings given for Purfleet - Bromborough is:- Cl.31 = 830 tonnes trailing incl. loco 2xCl.31 = 1660 tonnes trailing incl. loco Cl.37 - 1130 tonnes trailing incl. loco Cl.47 = 1545 tonnes trailing incl. loco The length limit is 50SLUs or 320m. So you should be able to work out how many 102 tonne bogie tank wagons you can have with a single Cl.47 or work it out in metres as long as you don't exceed 320m. Log in to reply |
