Approach locking Cowlairs area 21/03/2010 at 17:19 #936

Just been playing around with Central Scotland, and very fine it is, well done. I have noticed that around Cowlairs if you cancel a route even with no trains approaching, it times out. I've had 120 seconds and 180 seconds. Is this a bug or is it a function, which to my mind seems unlikely?

It is true.....and I'm certain I've mentioned in the the manual.

What I'm not 100% certain is that I've got the times right at all the signals. It was explained (and demonstrated) to me by the LOM as applying to all signals the protect a convergence and it was 4mins in the 100mph zone stepping down in time as nearer Glasgow. If anyone has definative info I can refine it.

Generally speaking, non-comprehensive approach locking - where the signal times out no matter what - is common, especially in older relay interlockings. It was expensive and complex to wire in so interlockings often timed out all signals. Timings can be anything from 120 to 240 seconds for main line signals; sometimes 60 seconds for bay platform starters; and 30 for shunt aspects.
