This may sound ridiculously pedantic, but in another thread (which I am not linking to as I do not want to appear to be criticizing the poster) someone posted in response to someone requesting the length of an MPV: "Each vehicle is 20.19m, so 40.38m" The above is (probably) only going to be correct if length is measured coupler to coupler. So where can I find the definition of the length (and other dimensions) of a rail vehicle? I am sure they will be defined somewhere. Log in to reply |

'The Bible' (AKA Platform 5 Traction & Rolling Stock), quotes lengths as buffer to buffer or coupler to coupler, whichever extends furthest.

I can be pedantic too and point out: 1. Both buffers and couplings extend and retract to a certain degree - less so with fixed couplings but there's still a bit of give-and-take 2. If measuring coupler extents then two vehicles coupled will be shorter than two vehicles touching coupler-to-coupler. SimSig Boss Log in to reply The following user said thank you: DriverCurran |
