Where are there three successive stations on the national rail network starting with the same word?

Ach-an-alt, Ach-na-sheen, Ach-na-shellach

Ach = Field in gaelic

Buy you probably can't do that that at 02:59 or 03:02. There is something that is specifically restricted between 03:00 and 03:01, oven though its not possible for quite a while before or after!

Sorry, but on National Rail there are no spaces or hyphens so it isn't a separate word (same as for Llan...).

My timetable challenge... I've used 6 minute minimum connections unless otherwise stated - I've also used RTT rather than National Rail but don't think that affects any of the times. 23 minutes between STP and EUS assumes a walk, but reckon it's easily doable via the Vic too.

I'm having trouble getting from Sittingbourne to Euston in the time you quote, as National Rail Enquires doesn't think walking from St Pancras to Euston is valid. Leaving Sittingbourne at 0607, the earliest you can reach Euston is 0727, and you then can't make the 0730 departure.

I think the next valid set of timings is:
St Pancras-Euston 07:22-07:27 (LUL)
Euston-Glasgow Central 08:30-13:01
Glasgow Central-Queens Park 13:20-13:26

That brings you to 27:07, still in the lead.

Thanks Danny - I had a feeling that might be the sticking point. Still, I'll take the slightly longer time if it's still top of the pops!

You've bee
I've checked this and National Rail confirms the timings so 26h51m is the best so far.

You've beaten my best of 27h06m by Quakers Yard -->Quintrell Downs, sleeper to Paddington than around London and finally Queens Park (Glasgow).

Thanks Danny,

I'm sure the journey could be made, but for consistency all journeys must be possible on the national Rail website. There seems to be a bug on some longer journeys no showing the best journeys so as long as each individual connection is valid I am accepting the answers.

Peter.

Apologies in advance for having my pedant's hat on but can I pose a what-if scenario please? What are the rules about journeys, connections and interchange times that are not given by the National Rail website. For example, for many locations the quickest trains are to and from London and it may be possible to find a journey from A to B via London which is significantly longer in distance and which is not given by National Rail but which is potentially shorter in time. Would such a route be allowed and if so, what time should be allowed for the change of trains within one London terminal or to get from arrival of train at one London terminal to departure of train from another?

I'd suggest referring to http://www.brtimes.com/#home as it shows the NR standard connection times, and standard fixed link walking times.

Such as http://www.brtimes.com/#!board?stn=KGX&show=info&date=20151206 for King's Cross

I am applying a rule that as long as each individual connection is valid on the national rail journey planner. I think this covers your scenario. So if ABC and BCD are valid then ABCD is valid.

Peter.

Peter

That is not really the situation I am posing. What I am saying is when you put A > B into the National Rail site you may get reasonably direct options like A > X > B, A > Y > B or A > Z > B which will be governed by the National Rail connection times at X, Y or Z. However, what if A > London > B is actually quicker? What time is allowed for connection out of arriving train at London to departing train at London (whether at a single turn-round station of where you go from one London terminal to another) where the route is not suggested by National Rail? If we were travelling from for example South West to Scotland and Network Rail sent us via Cross Country when there was a potentially quicker route via Paddington/Euston should we try and find something from intermediate points for the same trains we would like to use (like maybe Reading to Watford Junction) to give transfer times - which leaves wide open the problem if a train is non-stop Exeter - Paddington then Euston - Preston leapfrogging the Cross- Country option on the way?
