Had a few problems with this.

I use a bespoke location for all my SimSig stuff and have 2 options checked in the Folder Options list (C:\Users\John\Documents\Simsig\Licence Manager and Loader\Beta and C:\Users\John\Documents\Simsig\Licence Manager and Loader\Released). Clicked on the Update button on the v4.5.4 main screen, did not check the Leeds sim as I don't need it on my machine yet, allowed the update to v4.5.7 and OK'd it all. A DOS window came up telling me that it was unable to copy a temp file to SimSigRefresherA.exe. Closed the DOS window and things worked through to the end. Checked in the folder and the loader and refresher were showing the current date/time in the Date Modified column but RefresherA was still showing installation date/time from last July.

Ran the updater twice more and the same thing happened. I then closed the Loader from the main screen and ran SimSigRefresherA.exe directly from the file folder. This time things ran without the DOS box opening. Now the file folder is showing SimSigRefresherA.exe with the installation date/time under Date Modified, but there is also now SimSigRefresherB.exe showing the July date. Is SimSigRefresherB.exe just the old SimSigRefresherA.exe file that has been re-indexed and is it now required or can it be deleted?

Has anyone else seen anything like this?

PS Would it be possible to reinstate the option to change the location where sim files will be installed without having to go into the Folder Options dialogue for those who do not run with the default locations and may need to place sims in different locations depending on their status? In order to avoid complicating things for those who just wish to use the default locations, it could be something like a check box for the user to tick if they want to get the option of changing the installation location.

As noted on several other topics, the RefresherA.exe is note being updated as the Windows UAC is being invoked, could try running as administrator from the menu option for the exe?

I had very similar issues. Suggest you contact Headshot who helped me, and understands these things better than I.

Not having a problem as everything is up and working. I was just posting to check if anyone else was seeing the same sort of behaviour. If they are, there is possibly some sort of generic mismatch which is preventing the software running as planned if things are configured outside the norm.

RefresherA.exe was updated without me invoking administrator rights when I ran direct from SimSigRefresherA.exe rather than from the update button. Implies it might something other than (or on top of) a UAC problem.

I don't understand this. You set the folder options via the "Folder Options" button in the Loader. Those settings apply across all the software that needs it. The uppermost option that is ticked specifies the base directory for installations.

But that's the point. I have the system files in a SimSig folder with beta and released sims in different subfolders below the SimSig folder. The two subfolders are listed in my folder options and are the only options checked. That means that I don't have a base directory for installations, I have 2 directories depending on the status of the sim. OK, in my case it is unlikely that a beta sim will be packaged in an installer so I can drop the .sim file straight into the Beta sub-folders and as long as I have the released sub-folder at the top of the list then sims which are updated from the refresher program will drop into the right place. However, there may be other people who split their sims for different reasons. If that is the case, it would be nice to define where the sim and TTs should go at the installation stage rather than having to start moving files around after installation.

I'm not going to man the barricades if the computer says no; all I was doing was making a suggestion which would possibly make life easier for a handful of users and is all secondary in the context of this topic about the difficulty of updating SimSigRefresherA.exe.

You do have a base directory it's whichever folder that is ticked first in the loader.

I'd suggest you simply have your "released" sim folder as the first one ticked, and you shouldn't have a problem.

I don't have a problem - all I was asking was that an option might be made available for those with non-standard configurations.

It would be good if we could now get back to the starting point for this topic which was working out how to update SimSigRefresherA.exe and whether SimSigRefresherB.exe needs to be retained.

I think Geoff and myself have both tried to point out that the option is already there, you simply make whatever you want to be your default location the top of the list. But anyway that's digressing from the topic.

Have you tried running Simsig Loader as Administrator then doing check for updates and seeing if that lets SimsigRefresherA.exe upate?

I don't have SimsigRefresherB.exe on the virtual machines I did some testing on yesterday. So I have a feeling it's no longer needed.

I obviously still haven't got my point across. I am not raising a point about system file updates; I am trying to raise a point about new sims made available through the update process. I have a default location for system files but I don't have a default location for sim downloads because I want to put them to one of two locations depending on their status. I have obviously not explained this with enough clarity so far. Let's start again.

I have two options checked in the Folder Options dialogue. This enables the loader to pick up all of the sims I have on my machine when I want to start a sim because they are in one of those two locations. When updating so far, the system files have been dropped into the folder at one level above the two folder options I have checked and released sim files have updated in the "released" sub-folder which is the second of the folders in the file options list. New sims were not handled under previous refresher software,

Under the new system where freshly released sims are displayed through the update process, the user does not have a choice at that point where the updates are displayed as to where the sim files are placed on their machine; they go to the first of the options in the folder list. So with the Leeds City sim as I am currently configured, the sim would have been placed in my beta sub-folder when I would prefer it to go to my released sub-folder. Rather than having to either abort the update, edit the folder options list then restart the update or alternatively start dragging and dropping files after the update has taken place, it would be nice for some people if there was the option at the start of the process not to automatically go to a default location specified by the SimSig software, but to have the option to drop them somewhere else.

In case you are wondering why, I have the beta folder as first of the options as the loader log file is saved to the first of the options. As most of my SimSig work is done with beta sims, I prefer to have the log file in the beta folder for consistency and ease of access.

It's not a show-stopper but I would be nice if I could make my point clearly enough for others to understand.

Further to the SimSigrefresher issue....

My update to 4.5.7 wouldn't handle both (SimSigrefresher and SimSigrefresherA) being ticked for update. I unticked SimSigrefresherA, and the update ran, although it found updates to a number of sims it didn't list previously. Once installation was complete, pressing the 'check for update' button now no longer shows the SimSigrefresherA. Fixed? Perhaps so. However....it does now suggest i install the Leeds sim. Where has that come from?

The Leeds simulation install option is one of the new Update Features.

It also saves people the problem of over keen anti-virus causing issues with downloads.

It also keeps downloading new sims in one place.
