As many of you know, we tried a different method of installation of the new Leeds City simulation. For the vast majority of you I assume it went without much issue but a few did have problems. We've updated the installation software now to try to make it more helpful - but we're still at the mercy of over zealous virus scanners and Windows user access control. If you click "Check for updates" in the Loader now, you should be offered version 4.5.8 of SimSigRefresher.exe and SimSigRefresherA.exe. Once those are updated, Rugby Centre V1.3 and Rugby South V1.3 should also be available for update.

As far as we can tell, these are the common issues remaining:
1. The current user doesn't have the rights to install applications. Either log in as a user with such rights, or you may be able to right-click on SimSigRefresher.exe and select "Run as administrator". Others may be able to help with running on Macs and Linux systems.

2. You are trying to put simulations in the Program Files directory. For several years now Windows has limited the ability of user programs like SimSig installing files under the Program Files directory. Since the simulations are data files, not executables, this makes sense. We therefore recommend that simulations go into the default directory which is [CSIDL_COMMON_DOCUMENTS]\SimSig - otherwise known as C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\SimSig (but depends on your system). By pressing the "Folder Options" button in the Loader you can select this option by ticking it and ensuring it is at the top of the list by using the "Move Up" button if necessary.

3. If, for some reason, the installation of a package didn't complete, you might not be offered to install it again. This is simply defined by the presence of the relevant .sim file in the selected folder. If this is the case, use Windows explorer to locate the simulation (eg C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\SimSig\Simulations\Wibble.sim) and click "Check for updates" again. This does not affect any licenses you may have.

We're now going to start moving all simulation installs over to this new system but that will take some time - there are a lot of simulations and files to check!

At some point I'll copy this forum topic into the Wiki. Please feel free to add, amend, or question anything. Thanks for standing by us while we worked through the teething issues!

That's correct, as only the refresher program has been updated. Loader version remains at 4.5.7

I'm still having problems on my system. When I run the update button I am offered the option to load 3 sims (Leeds + 2 x Rugby, none of which are currently on my system). I don't check any of them and click next. I am then offered the updates to SimSigRefresher.exe v4.5.8 and SimSig RefresherA.exe v4.5.8. When I click on Next I get the pop-up telling me that the program needs to close to finish updating. As it reloads I get the following DOS screen:

When I close that window the updater screen shows "finished updating files".

On checking my bespoke SimSig location, refresher is updated but refreshera is still v4.5.7 so has not been updated.

If I run the update again, I am offered the sims, then SimsigRefresherA.exe v4,5,8. Again the DOS window and then "finished updating files" but again no update to SimSigRefresherA.

When I locate the .tmp file and use it to overwrite SimSigRefresherA.exe the update only offers me the 3 sims so I guess that the .tmp file is OK, it is the copy process where there is a problem.

Geoff,

Will you have the choice, please, to refuse a download? - for instance if you don't fancy running that SIM?

Thanks.

N.

Yes, you have to explicitly ask for the Sim download by ticking the box - other updates you can delete the tick.
