How many minutes should I expect to get when I run a PayWare Sim in Demo Mode?

I recently tried Leeds City on my laptop and only got 2 minutes, which seems a little on the low side for evaluation purposes.

Anyone able to enlighten me on this one.

Thanks,

Lyn G

Thanks for the info, Peter. I wonder why I only got 2 minutes. I'll try it again and see how long I get.

Reports of very short demo times have appeared sporadically ever since the loader came out, and no explanation for it has ever been found as far as I'm aware.

Yes; I used to get a 15 *second* demo time on my old laptop! When I replaced my computer the problem went away, but buying a new computer purely to fix this issue might be considered overkill...

Has the problem been fully investigated? There seems to be no consistency in what happens. I tried Leeds City again on my Laptop (which runs Windows 7) and got 'thrown off' after less than a minute, yet when I tried Victoria Central on the same Laptop, I was still going strong after 10 minutes. However, when I tried Leeds City on my PC (running Windows 8.1), I got nearly 15 minutes!

If PC-Rail can consistently provide very reasonable 'demo times', then surely Simsig, which is far superior, should be able to do the same.

Out of interest, how is the 'demo time' calculated? I would have thought that it should be fairly easy to give a fixed amount of 'sim time' for the demo, but obviously not. Perhaps Geoff can throw some light on this problem.

Very curious indeed.

Lyn, its marked as fixed on the bug tracker a couple of times.

As you have had it occur again, I have raised a new Mantis 14788.

Thanks, Stephen. It must be an obscure bug if it only shows up on some machines and has (supposedly) been fixed several times.

Do you know what mechanism is used to decide when the demo time has expired? I'm quite curious as to why it seems to get it wrong.

Indeed. As Forest Pines experienced, simply a new computer changed whether it worked or not.

Nobody reported this for a long time so I assumed it worked for everybody... clearly not.

Just a daft thought, but does the speed at which the sim is running affect the demo period?

I suspect not as I was running all the tests at 'normal' speed.

Let's see how the investigation develops.
