Perhaps it would be a good starting point if you read this page of the Wiki, then posted back with any points where you require clarification.

That information may be superfluous as you were pointed to similar Wiki links in 2010 and 2011 here and in 2014 here. If you managed to get things working then, what has changed since?

Hello BHarrison. Before you even start the SimSig loader, you need to set-up your internet router, something called "Port Forwarding". Unfortunately, this can be a little complicated. Try a search here on SimSig for port forward topics or try

http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/

Key info: internet addresses beginning 192.168. ... are local addresses (used within your house only) You need this address for port forwarding. Your router also has a separate address to receive connections from outside your house (from the internet). This address, together with the port number) is the one your friend needs to connect to you. This will look like number.number.number.number

Think of it this way:

World ---> router ---> my computer (running SimSig)

World <--- router <--- my computer (running SimSig)

The router has an address: number.number.number.number (type "my internet address into Google search to find this "your public internet address")
Your computer has an address begining 192.168. ... and a port number (for SimSig to use).

Alternatively, ArabianNights has set up a server which can host your multi-play game for you, and then both you and your friend can connect to it. I don't have the details for this. Send a PM (private message) to ArabianNights for the info, or someone reading this may know.

Good Luck.

Do you plan to play in the same location or in different locations?

The answer is much simpler if you are both connect to the same network (i.e. in the same house).

He used to play with someone else connecting externally, there's been over 11 pages of help provided to him over the years on port forwarding and other hosting matters, I don't know what else we could say really.

ArabianNight's server is a recent development. If you can't set up Port Forwarding yourself, use his server to host your game for you. If I had the details, I would display them here. Send a PM to arabianights for the info (small letters, only one n).

thanks for that will bear that in mind

rest of thread

I'm aware of port forwarding as I have a service set up.

It was the Ip you pass to the person(s) your playing with I was unsure of.

Thanks

Whoever is hosting, go to http://ping.eu/port-chk/ and it's the IP address shown.

The browser makes no difference, you are still connecting to the same address and will see the same pages.

Or simply press the button in the loader screen that says "What's my internet address".
