ARS not clearing signals 15/05/2016 at 16:20 #82381

ARS doesn't re-set signals 436 or 438 if they have been cancelled.

I cancelled both routes and applied reminders to protect LC82. When the crossing was clear, I removed the reminders, re-enabled the ARS sub-area and left it to set routes for the next trains. However, I noticed that the next approaching train had an ARS status of "Waiting for manual route RM436MA to be set".

Sim is in 2012+ era, easy mode with Extra ARS.

There is a similar issue at LC89.

As the sim loaded with ARS engaged and these signals in auto re-clear already, I suspect they are not managed by the ARS and only exist to protect the crossing.

Not sure why they would use controlled signals in some places and E buttons in others, but hey, signal engineers

Similar non-ARS controlled signals exist around Rugby if I recall correctly...

If the signals are not controlled by ARS why does the ARS sub-area drop when the routes are cancelled? If these signals work without ARS that should be made clear in the manual.

Will double check but 99.9% sure these routes are specifically non-ARS but still allocated to subareas. Usually neutral sections or some other infrastructure reason.

I thought I'd put it in the manual and though I do mention the relevant signals, I only got as far as mentioning the route lights, not the ARS part.

Geoff, you are quite correct that these signals are in the ARS subarea but are not controlled by ARS. At the time of commissioning the IECC there was a standard that stated so many signals had to be non ARS controlled. There are several non ARS signals on all workstations here at York IECC (most of which can be put into auto to alleviate the problem)
